Following Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is back. The city has fought back with a vengeance and in 2007 drew record crowds to many of its festivals. For example, the 2007 French Quarter Festival celebrated its 24th year with a record crowd of over 450,000. The 2007 Mardis Gras drew over 800,000 and hotels reported a 95% occupancy rate. There are now over 140 major hotels open with near pre-Katrina numbers of rooms available. Nearly 100% of French Quarter and main tourist areas have reopened. Most major airlines have added flights to New Orleans over the past year. New Orleans remains one of the most visited US cities and the new DK Eyewitness Guide New Orleans is timed perfectly to the city's resurgence.

Good book but a little too summarized.

Good book but a little too summarized. You can find the info you want but it will be difficult to go deeper into it. A lot of illustrations, very handy to find a good restaurant or a good place to stay.

a standard guide, with a very nice pictures...

The book is a cool guide, with good pictures (in color) and nice layout. However, the way that the book uses to tell about New Orleans is not very interesting. It gives some detail in several point of interest (like when the author explains about the cemetery), but many of the narrations are not tempting. In addition, I think the guide book is not made for budget traveller. If we follow the suggested itinerary, the cost will be relatively expensive compare to other alternatives. I should've seen it from the cover.
However, given certain conditions (like last minute road trip decision to go from midwest to the south in the winter), This book had help us greatly to decide where to go on the fly, and again, the book has beautiful pictures. Therefore, for this book, please judge the book by its cover.
