With Eyewitness Readers, children will learn to read ---- then read to learn! What does it take to hold down a job in zero gravity? Find out what it's really like to be an Astronaut: Living in Space. Now with read-along audio feature, paced so that a child can read along with the text according to their level of reading confidence.

Longer sentences and an expanded vocabulary make this series books slightly more challenging: Level 2 is appropriate for children who have started to read but still need help. Information boxes full of background information will stimulate inquisitive minds. These books contain between 700 and 850 words, and they are approximately 70 percent pictures and 30 percent text. The DK Readers combine an enticing visual layout with high--interest, easy--to--read stories to captivate and delight young bookworms who are just getting started. Written by leading children's authors and compiled in consultation with literacy experts, these engaging books build reader confidence along with a lifelong appreciation for nonfiction, classic stories, and biographies. There is a DK Reader to interest every child at every level, from preschool to grade 4.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
For all those girls who dream about being an astronaut, this book will add fuel to the fire. Linda also wanted to be a part of the space program. She tried out and earned a place. Then the really hard work of training began, and Linda persevered. She became a member of a shuttle crew and worked in space to repair a telescope. Her daily routine to keep healthy and in shape is described as is her eagerness to undertake another mission. There is a list of space facts and other books in the series and a note to parents on the opening page about the importance of reading. A Level 2 book in the "Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Readers" series. 2000, DK Publishing, and $3.95. Ages 5 to 7. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
