Editorial Reviews

Bloomsbury Review
Praise for Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots?

Humorous illustrations add charm, and for parents who have princesses of their own, the refreshing perspective on acceptable princess behavior is a godsend.

Midwest Book Review
Do Princesses Have Best Friends Forever? is a delightful illustrated book about two girls who spend a day in creative, fun play activities together. Whimsical pastel illustrations make the verse play date descriptions hilariously real.
Wee One's Children's Magazine
Praise for Do Princesses Scrape Their Knees?

"This fun book shows that even a 'princess' can get down and dirty."

Children's Literature
Two princesses can get into much more trouble than one, that's for sure! Mom gets a fun filled adventure when her little girl has a friend over for a day-long playdate. These two young princesses discover the fun with dress-up, playing in the mud, making messes, and even a trip to the zoo. Coyle teaches children sharing, curiosity, and even empathy as two girls enjoy their day of exploration and bond in friendship. The illustrations by Gordon enhance the story with humorous visuals of the girls and their fun filled typical girl adventures, including starting a musical band. The real pink friendship bracelets at the back of this book give little girls the ability to declare their own best friend princess. What could be better than that! It's a great read for young girls and can even give boys a look into the life of a little princess. Reviewer: Lisa Kuehne
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1—In this installment, the everyday princess and her new best pal explore friendship during a daylong playdate packed with activity. Readers follow the girls as they build a fort, visit the zoo, make music, fight, and apologize. At the end of the day they create matching bracelets "with a double pink heart./And then we can wear them/ when we're apart." Two bracelets come with the book. Soft watercolor cartoon illustrations complement the rhyming text, with the background actions of the pets and younger brother adding warmth and humor to the scenes. The book will appeal to aspiring princesses while giving adult readers a break from more traditional stories.—Suzanne Myers Harold, Multnomah County Library System, Portland, OR

    Recommended to all Children

Two girls, who are best friends and have a play date, ask if everyday things and play are things that princesses can do. For example, princesses can stomp in the mud and then clean their toes off; they can sing while they are on their way to the zoo; they can get ice cream; and they can play dress up. Most importantly though, if they hurt someone's feelings it is their responsibility to apologize to them. At the end of their play date they make matching bracelets to wear while they are apart....moreTwo girls, who are best friends and have a play date, ask if everyday things and play are things that princesses can do. For example, princesses can stomp in the mud and then clean their toes off; they can sing while they are on their way to the zoo; they can get ice cream; and they can play dress up. Most importantly though, if they hurt someone's feelings it is their responsibility to apologize to them. At the end of their play date they make matching bracelets to wear while they are apart.

The two main girls are characterized through their actions throughout the picture book. They first start out doing very girly-princess-like things (playing dress up) and gradually move to doing more 'adult' things (making friendship bracelets) and knowing that even princesses have responsibilities.

This book was very cute and perfect for young girls to learn that friends are important. While it is not hinted int he writing itself the illustrations show the two girls coming from different cultures: one is black and the other is white. This in turn adds to the theme of the book that friendship can cross color boundaries.
