Children's LiteraturePart of the "People in my Community," or "La Gente de mi Communidad" bilingual series, this slim volume introduces beginning readers to the world of the doctor. Color photos of ethnically diverse children help portray the basic work of doctors as they interact with young patients. Efforts to stay well are emphasized over treatment of illness. Each photo is paired with a page of text consisting of two simple English sentences followed by their Spanish equivalent. The text is designed for beginning readers in that it is brief, repetitious and in large clear print. A note to educators and parents at the beginning of the book explains the philosophy of the series, and suggests how the book could be used. This book could be useful in a primary bilingual classroom. An index, glossary, short bibliography and web site list are included. 2002, Weekly Reader Early Learning Library, Ages 5 to 8.
