EXCERPT:

Jessie opened the screen door and turned toward Cameron. This was it, then. The end. Her fairy-tale prom night was over. "Thank you for a wonderful time," she said, holding out her hand, feeling like a fool.

Cameron stared at her hand, then at her. His face was taut, as if he were in pain. His blue eyes burned like jewels. Jessie wondered what was wrong.

Suddenly, he reached out and pulled her to him, arching her slender body into his. "I have to have one more kiss, Jess. One . . . more . . . kiss."

His mouth crushed down on hers. This wasn't an obligatory goodnight kiss, Jessie thought, her heart hammering in her chest. This was a kiss like you read about in novels or watched at the movies. He must feel something for her, or he wouldn't be kissing her like this. How was she going to stand it when he left forever?

Cameron broke the embrace and set her away from him. "Good bye, Jess." He didn't look at her again, didn't turn to wave. He got in his truck and drove away into the night and out of her life.

Seventeen years later . . .

The atmosphere sizzled in the small office. Jessie stood like a statue, her eyes opened wide. "Why did you come back?" Her raspy voice held a note of accusation.

In two long strides, he was beside her. She backed against the file cabinet. He stepped closer.

"You know why I'm back. We need to finish what we started seventeen years ago." He touched a finger to her cheek, traced the smooth line of her jaw, eased his hand behind her neck and pulled her to him. Her trembling intensified and she put her hands on his chest as if to ward him off.

He caught her hands and moved them over his heart. "Feel my heartbeat, Jess. It's beating for you." He pressed his body against hers. "Feel how much I want you. I tried to stay away, but God help me, I couldn't."

His mouth claimed hers in fierce desire. Jessie moaned, holding back only for a second, knowing deep down resistance was hopeless.

She couldn't help it . . . she kissed him back.

    Great read

    In THE DOCTOR WEARS A STETSON, Ms. Novark has created a wonderful reunion story. One date while in high school set the hearts of Jessie Devine and Cameron McCade on a one-way course to each other. Several detours popped up along the road, but they are given a second chance for true happiness.

    I loved this story and was captured from the very beginning, when Cameron asks Jessie to go to the senior prom. Fast forward ten plus years and a reunion with sparks is set. If I had Ms. Novark do anything different, it would be to add to ending. I really, really wanted Cameron's reaction to the news Jessie had just given him. I'd loved to have seen the shaky hand and thumping heart. But even with that insight omited, the story is great and I highly recommend it.

    Did not want to put down!!!

    This is honestly the first time in a long time I didn't skip ahead to take a peak to see what's coming. This was the sweetest love story with two charachters that literally touched your heart. I can not wait to find out what's next for this family. By the way, love seeing the tomboy get the guy!!!;)

    Sweet love story

    Cameron and Jessie's story about a budding young love rekindled 17 years later was wonderfully written and impossible to put down. Cameron's brothers, Dallas and Austin, each have their own books in this series. Can't wait!

    good read

    The heroine got on my nerves by the end of the book, the back and forth got old. The writers choice in using the word tummy instead of something a little more adult, seemed to me, to take away from certain situations. All in all the book was worth reading.

    you can go home again

    Very good love story. I enjoyed the small town friendship without being too nosey. Folkes just seem to know whats best for you no matter how hard you fight it. Look foward to the brothers stories in books 2 and 3. Highly recommend. Enjoy!

    Sweet and sexy!

    Enjoyed the story, but did get bored withJessie's drama. Love me some Cameron. Really,though how quick could Jessiebethat in love and devastated by it??

    Very cute T . J. In Ky.

    This is one sweet love story. Maybe just a little too sweet for me. I did like it, I just wasnt into it that much. I would have loved a little epiloge at the end.

    really enjoyed thia book

    I can understand Jessie's reluctance to get involved. She has had to stand her own to long, and lost to much not to be hesitant. Add money issues on top of that, along with her first love showing up, lots to contend with. Cameron was pretty daring himself to realize he needs find something more in his life. Glad it took them months to work things out and that Cameron was persistant. I loved the car gesture! It must be love! Hope book 2 overlaps their story with Dallas'.

    Hot and cold...so frustrating!

    Well written, just one or two grammer mistakes. Storyline was good but I felt like the book dragged, Jessie's character was so frustrating with her hot one minute and then cold the next minute attitude. I was hoping for more during the story but the only thing that happened was Jessie questioning herself over and over again....sighs. The one sex scene was good, not very detailed. The other scenes were just implied, not expanded upon, so no its not erotica at all. I hope the other books in this series are better than this one.

    Wonderful!

    This is the first installment in the Diamondback Ranch series, and my first read by this author. It won't be my last. This book is great - you won't be disappointed!
