The French Revolution (1789–1799) is one of the most well known and influential social revolutions in history. Over a 10 year period of radical social and political upheaval in France, a monarch was executed, the Bastille was stormed, the Reign of Terror took place, and the end of the Revolution would eventually witness the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte.
However, from all of the tumult came some of the most important human rights and revolutionary documents ever created. This collection of the Documents of the French Revolution includes the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, one of the first documents to advocate for universal human rights, along with a dozen other letters and reports regarding civil rights and the political firestorms between the revolutionaries and the monarch and aristocracy.
