Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sandra G. Brody
Sidney and Sydney are back; two friends with the same name! Sidney, the boy, and Sydney, the girl, are very different, but they also have a lot in common. Sidney is tall while Sydney is the smallest student in their third grade class. He is kind of quiet and she is lively and outgoing. One thing that the two friends have in common is that they both love to play Galaxy Conquest. When their teacher, Mr. Luther, announces that the entire third grade will participate in the Third-Grade Spelling Bee, the kids have various reactions. As soon as Sydney and Sidney hear that the winner will get a gift card to the new video game store they both become interested in winning the spelling bee. Another thing that the two friends both like to do is play Dodge Ball, and they are both very good at it. Sidney does not realize that Sydney is known as the Dodge Ball Queen until they are the last two in the game. When the school play is announced and they find out that third graders will be allowed to audition, Sydney is thrilled. She does great at the audition and ends up getting the female lead. Sidney decides to try out to bring up his reading grade. He gets cast as the understudy for the male lead. The story takes an unexpected turn that puts the two friends in the spotlight together. Written in language that children can relate to, Sidney & Sydney is sure to appeal to early readers. Book two in the "Sidney & Sydney" series. Reviewer: Sandra G. Brody

Meet the Author

Raised in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates, Michele Jakubowski has the teachers in her life to thank for her love of reading and writing. While writing has always been a passion for Michele, she believes it is the books she has read throughout the years, and the teachers who assigned them, that have made her the storyteller she is today. Michele lives in Powell, Ohio, with her husband, John, and their children, Jack and Mia.

Luisa Montalto followed a curved path to becoming an illustrator: She was first a dancer, then earned her doctorate degree in cinematography. She credits these experiences with giving her the energy and will to try harder. Finally, she went on to work with an independent comics magazine, before becoming a professional illustrator in 2003.
