Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Leona Illig
Walter, also known as Mr. Puzzle, is a superhero who can change his shape in order to battle bad guys and thus save the day for his community. In this installment of the “Mr. Puzzle” series, he is called in to vanquish four villains: a guitar-playing, mint chocolate zombie; a jellyfish with noodle arms; a very bad bed bug; and a rampaging weed. Walter’s four adventures are told in four separate cartoon sections, and do not need to be read in any particular order. The format is the same for each book in the series: in the beginning is a short introduction describing how Walter became a superhero, while the back of the book contains sections on how to draw Mr. Puzzle, a biography of the author, a question and answer session with the author, a glossary, some brain teasers, and websites and resources provided by the publisher. The illustrations are in white and orange, with black text. The print is small and the illustrations are busy, potentially confusing the reader since the same amount of emphasis seems to be given to just about everything. The humor is innocent and full of puns. The price of the book is high. Although the shape of Mr. Puzzle may recall the popular and hilarious Sponge Bob, the similarity ends there. Reviewer: Leona Illig; Ages 8 to 12.
