Editorial Reviews

Aviana Aviana
Kim Watters’ sweet short story, Dog Days of Summer, packs an emotional wallop. It’s nicely written and she manages to hit quite a few issues in a scant 16 pages: Emily and her son’s emotional turmoil after being callously abandoned, Emily’s desire to return to her roots and start over, Jeremy’s need to bond with something that will love him unconditionally and finally, the unexpected emotional connection between the dog’s owner, Daniel, and Emily.

I loved this story. Loved. It. Ms. Watters did a fabulous job creating real characters and deep emotion -- people and places we can care about. The heroine has many challenges: she doesn't know exactly who she is after remaking herself for her now ex-husband, and has a son who is desperately hurt by his father's abandonment. When you introduce a handsome fireman and goofy dog into the mix, thingscan't help but be fun. They're also emotional and satisfying.

What an absolutely sweet story! Ms. Watters manages to convey Emily’s frustration with her child, her hopes that Sir Isaac will be what they both need, and her attraction to Daniel, who seems almost too good to be true. Here’s a guy who loves Sir Isaac enough to know he needs to find him a good home and is masculine enough not to worry about showing his feelings. Dog Days of Summer warms the heart and brings forth thoughts of happily ever after…

Meet the Author

At twelve years old Kim Watters fell in love with romance after she borrowed a romance novel from the bookshelf of her older sister. An avid reader, Kim was soon hooked on the happily ever after. For years, Kim dreamt of writing her own romance novel, but she never seemed to have the time. After graduating from college, she moved into Chicago to pursue another dream of being an actress and a model. Tired after six years of the hustle and bustle of the city, she relocated to a small town in Arizona north of Phoenix where there are no sidewalks or public transportation and the cowboys still ride their horses around. There Kim finally found the time to write. Five published novels and five short stories later, she still lives in that same town with her two children, three rambunctious kittens and one nervous hamster. She’s a member of RWA, NINC, PASIC, ACFW, Desert Rose RW, and Valley of the Sun RW.
