The Dog That Stole Football Playsby Matt Christopher, Bill Ogden, Daniel Vasconcellos
Mike's football team is really put to the test when Harry, his telepathic dog, has to stay home. Can the team win without Harry's supernatural advice?
Children's Literature - Amy McMillanMike makes an amazing discovery when he walks past the pet store one daya dog who can read his mind! From the start, he and Harry have a great partnership. Then football season starts, and Harry helps Mike's team to win by sending him the other team's plays. The winning feels great but after a while Mike wonders if what he's doing is really fair. When Harry gets sick and the team has to rely on its own skill to win, Mike realizes that winning isn't everything. He concludes that Harry's talent can probably best be used for other things. The large print and black-and-white illustrations make this an ideal selection for independent readers who are not quite ready to make the jump to full-fledged chapter books, while the animal and sports themes can encourage reluctant readers. Part of the "Matt Christopher Sports Readers" series. Reviewer: Amy McMillan
