The dogs in the illustrations are irresistible and-surprisingly-appear to enjoy wearing the fanciful costumes designed by Jenkins, who trained in fashion design before delving into doggy chic. This whimsical book is in essence a practical guide to making party costumes for dogs of all sizes. The author cautions her readers not to make pets dress up if they don't wish to. For those who do, she provides patterns for 12 different costumes, along with complete cutting, sewing, and fitting instructions. The Chihuahua and the pug dressed up as the Blues Brothers, complete with suits, black ties, porkpie hats, and shades, will bring a smile to the face of even a nonparty animals. Other costumes include a Wild West sheriff's outfit, an Elvis costume, and a rock'n'roll hero. The price is right, and public libraries will want to purchase this where demand warrants.
