The premise of this book was interesting. Upon reading, I was hooked. I love the narration of the story, told from Loi's first person point of view. The way the story is written, I feel like she's a woman really sitting here tell me about her life. I even like the moving from past to present, as the story is told as Loi reminiscing. The story is wonderfully written with the main character not being a traditional type of woman. She's got some dark spots in her past, though she is not truly a bad person. This story was a joy to read with all its ups and downs and good ol' karma working its way around.

Whenever I start reading a book I always pay attention to how the author tells the story. Anybody can tell a story but what makes a good story is when you feel like you’re in the story.  McFarland does this in Doing Big Things. Loi Cramer is a woman that we can somewhat relate to. We may not have been through as much as her but everyone always seeks the best life possible no matter the obstacles they encounter and so does Loi. I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning all the way to the end. She made it to a life of luxury and fights to stay there. Bravo to McFarland for a book that I see myself reading over and over again.
