Doing Time with Charlie
Wanting to honor a friend lost suddenly to cancer and his devotion to prison ministry, Kay began to share letters of encouragement with an inmate named Charlie who was a faithful follower of Jesus and one of the leaders of Christian inmates at Maine State Prison.

Sentenced to life under maximum security for his crimes, he had already spent 25 years behind the iron bars. Kay believed prison to be a frightening place. Men in prison deserved to be there. Men in prison were dangerous. Men in prison could never change. Yet, the more Kay exchanged letters with Charlie, the more she learned about his life.

“As I read each letter from Charlie, another new thought dawned on me—that a person in prison could be radically changed. In theory, I knew this was true, because Jesus was changing me.” —Kay Page, author

As God changes us spiritually from the inside out, He found a way to change Charlie from inside his prison walls. There Charlie found life in Christ, forgiveness, and Kay who later became his bride.

In Doing Time With Charlie, Kay Page tells how doing time as a prison wife can be almost as painful as for the men inside. The loneliness, the long drives, the struggles with prison rules. This is the story of a husband and wife sentenced to life...till death do us part.

About the Author

Kay Page comes from a teacher’s family and graduated from Wheelock College. While in college she joined the march from Selma to Montgomery with Dr. King.

To support five children, she taught in the public schools. Much time was spent on developing a reading program that works.

Eventually Kay left teaching school to become a missionary with Youth With a Mission, going to Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo. There she set up programs for war traumatized children.

After meeting Charlie, she involved herself in working for good practices in prisons, and has formed YWAM Prisons to lend support to those around the world who are in prison.

Kay also serves as Mission Director in River of Life Church in Sanford Maine.
