With loads of information perfect for research reports or just learning about these animals, this MTH companion is a splashy and useful book to keep on the shelf.
Children's Literature
Young readers may already be familiar with the Magic Tree House series, a collection of early chapter books featuring Jack and Annie. These popular books go further: nonfiction companions or research guides. In this case series author Mary Pope Osborne joins her sister to encourage children to do research by presenting Jack and Annie as saying, "We had one adventure in Dolphins at Daybreak. Now let's continue the adventure by researching dolphins and sharks." The book does this well, with pages of facts written in an interesting style. Text covers such common facts such as why dolphins are mammals and sharks are fish to lesser-known factoids: dolphins communicate by touch or, a person has more chance of being hit over the head by a coconut or stepped on by an elephant than being attacked by a shark. Along the way and in the margins are Annie and Jack with more information, definitions or appropriate comments. Illustrations are black and white, but they are plentiful and lively. The book's final section is about how children can become involved in ensuring these amazing creatures are still around when readers are adults. The long reference section includes an index, bibliography and lists of museums, web sites, videos, etc, along with encouragement to take along a notebook to get the most out of this research adventure. Meet the Author

MARY POPE OSBORNE and NATALIE POPE BOYCE are sisters who grew up on army posts all over the world. They are working on more Magic Tree House® Fact Tracker books to give Magic Tree House readers facts and information about places, time periods, and animals that Jack and Annie discover in the Magic Tree House adventures.

Mary lives in Connecticut. Natalie makes her home nearby in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. Mary is the author of all the Magic Tree House fiction titles as well as many more books for kids.

SAL MURDOCCA has illustrated more than 200 children's trade and text books. He is also a librettist for children'sopera, a video artist, an avid runner, hiker, and bicyclist, and a teacher of children's illustration at the Parsons School of Design. Sal lives and works in New York with his wife, Nancy.

    A great book for future oceanographers

    Tells of dolphins and sharks, but also of the ocean in a way that young children can understand, learn and love.

    fantastic book

    this book is a great book! i enjoyed this book very much! if you are thinking about getting this book then i'd say you should get it if you like sharks or dolphins or if you need to do a school project on sharks or dolphins then this would be a GREAT book for you!!! this is was my first magic tree house book and this book was so good i started reading most of the magic tree house book!!!! have fun reading!

    i luv dolphins and sharks(and this book!)
