Overview

Met Her Match (A Hawkeye Story) by Sierra Cartwright

Series: Hawkeye; Previous Book: Bend Me Over

Highly trained Mira Araceli can hold her own in the toughest parts of the world, but not, it seems, against her secret crush, Torin Carter. She'd fallen for her Hawkeye instructor years before, and to him, she'd been just another recruit; fresh, green, idealistic.

Torin, with his dark Irish good looks and fierce temper, doesn't want a partner, any partner, and especially not Mira. But assignments are assignments, and he takes his responsibilities seriously. So when the beautifully submissive Mira crawls into his bedroom, a leather belt between her teeth, he calls on all his resolve to send her away.

Unsatisfied, Mira ups the stakes and finds another dom to play with at Dark Haven. Beyond furious, Torin storms into Master Xavier's club and claims his rights to dominate Mira. For the first time in her life, she's met her match.

Educating Evangeline by Belinda McBride

This isn't what she came here for!

Pursued by a group of mysterious hunters, Evangeline Jones was desperate for sanctuary when she ducked into the doorway of Dark Haven. Instead of safety, she discovers a decadent, sensual world that challenges her very outlook on life.

Harte Sommers is charmed by the little wolf with the pink streak in her ebony hair. As alpha of the Napa pack, he sometimes feels that he's alone at the top. When he meets Eva, he knows he might not be able to keep his wild little wolf at his side, but his heart tells him that his lonely days might be at an end.

With an empty nest and divorce in hand, Rona decides it's time to explore the fantasies that nourished her through a long, tedious marriage to a man whose idea of outrageous sex was leaving the lights on. At the top of her fantasy list is touring Dark Haven, the BDSM club, but she isn't prepared for the effect of a powerful Dom. When Master Simon takes control and introduces her to toys and sensations she's never felt before, she realizes he could fulfil every fantasy on her list all by himself. But she's vowed to never get trapped in a relationship again.

One of the most popular Doms in Dark Haven, Master Simon has had his fill of eager, shallow, young subs. Rona is older, intelligent, independent...and sweetly submissive. After an evening of intense pleasure and despite her obvious attraction, she refuses to see him again. He needs a way to change her mind. She's not the first sub he's taken on a journey of exploration, but he's beginning to think she might be the last.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, strong BDSM theme and elements to include exhibitionism and voyeurism.

The first novella by Cartwright was simply painful to get through. The only reason why I continued to read it was to quickly get to the next story and prayed that it wouldn't be as horrible. The level of writing shown by this author compared to Sinclair is, quite honestly, non-comparable. Her storyline wasn't horrible, however, the grammar possessed was as if a 5th grader wrote the novella.

The second novella wasn't horrible, but I'm not quite into the paranormal storyline.

#1 Met Her Match (A Hawkeye Story) by Sierra Cartwright - I'm no

#1 Met Her Match (A Hawkeye Story) by Sierra Cartwright - I'm not familiar with the Hawkeye series, but this novella didn't leave me with any unanswered questions, nor did I feel lost with the characters or their purpose.

On the surface, Mira was a tough heroine who could easily keep up with her male counterparts within her job. As mentioned in the blurb, her long-time, unrequited crush on Torin finally came to a head with an unsuccessful attempt to seduce him. I really liked this pairing with Torin's base-male reactions towards her, and his struggle to adhere to his hands-off policy giving way to taking complete control. This story wasn't just about scorching hot BDSM scenes though. After they'd crossed the line from being colleagues to lovers, the question inevitably arose as to how it would affect their dangerous jobs. It took a mission at the end of the story to push them to acknowledge that mind-blowing sex and spankings weren't enough to sustain their budding relationship. The brief heartache, their reflection and the outcome showed maturity and was a very satisfying ending.

#2 Educating Evangeline by Belinda McBride - Another author I wasn't familiar with prior to reading this, but it wasn't difficult to follow. In comparison to the first story, I think it would have helped to have read the first book in the series just to keep the packs and the dynamics straight. Nonetheless, this was still enjoyable.

Evangeline was a tough heroine and an alpha female. As a lone wolf, she was used to fending for herself, but she lacked certain skills that only came from being a part of a pack and having an alpha male leader. I liked the courage it took for her to accept Harte's protection and submit to him. Aside from the scorching hot sex scenes, she had a chance to assert her dominant side at the side of her mate. I do love a story where the heroine gets to jump into the fray and kick some butt.

I have already read the second anthology in this series (at the time of typing this review) which featured another story in this series. I won't be continuing with this series because I didn't care for the overall series plot. That is to say, I was a little bored. These novellas hit the sweet spot, and for me, that was enough.

#3 Simon Says: Mine by Cherise Sinclair - I love stories with characters in their 30s/40s since that is my age bracket. I really enjoyed Rona's commitment to sticking to her list of goals for her life post divorce. Her honesty about her behavior was both endearing and amusing. Simon was simply sinful. I loved his maturity, not just his age, but there was simply no hesitation on his part about wanting a long-term relationship. His dominance and his charm were quite heady and consistent from start to finish. And just like three years ago, the ending still got me.

I bought this mainly for Cherise Sinclair, but overall I loved this entire anthology for the overlapping scenes.

To be honest, I wanted to read this anthology because of Cheris

To be honest, I wanted to read this anthology because of Cherise Sinclair’s story in it. I wasn’t expecting to come away from it with 2 new authors that I just couldn’t get enough of and wanting to read more of their books!

Met Her Match (A Hawkeye Story) by Sierra Cartwright
    5 Paws
This book was one that I wasn’t really sure if I was going to enjoy it because of the way it started out. But as the story progressed, I really couldn’t get enough of Mira and Torin. They were both extremely strong characters, and it was interesting to see how they would clash over things.
Mira’s character was one that I really enjoyed because she was such a strong woman. She knew what she wanted and went after it without a second thought. While that isn’t usually a good thing, it ended up working for her. The thing that I really enjoyed about her though was how she wanted to be involved in BDSM, because it was something that interested her. And what she knew she wanted. She didn’t want to be involved because it was a new fad.
Overall, I can say that I was completely caught off guard with this book and I do want to read more from this author in the future.

    Educating Evangeline by Belinda McBride
    4 Paws
While I did enjoy this story, and I do want to read more from this series in the future, I felt almost as though this story was very predictable. Evangeline’s character was one that I did like, I also felt like she was a bit naive when it came being in touch with her wolf. That almost broke the story for me with how she was acting, and how she didn’t seem to realize anything.
Harte’s character was one that I did enjoy however. I thought that he was really well written, and you could sense how he really cared about everyone he was in charge of. Especially with Evangeline, I could tell how he was worried about what was happening with her, and he just wanted to help.
The plot twists that happened during the course of the story were very interesting. And they did keep me turning the pages and wanting to find out what was going to happen next between Evangeline and Harte.
Overall, I did still enjoy the story and I will be looking into this author’s other works in the future.

Simon Says: Mine by Cherise Sinclair
    5 Paws
Simon is one character who I have always had a soft spot for when it came to this series. But I can say that Rona’s character was one that complimented him perfectly in my opinion.
Simon was very likeable in this book, and you could tell that he cared a lot about everyone around him. He was always aware of what was going on around him. And him even going to the point where he would be willing to set Rona up with other men shows a lot to his character.
Rona’s character was one that I really enjoyed simply because of the fact of how realistic she was written. It was very easy to connect with her during this story because she has such a real story, and one that tugs on your heartstrings. I can’t say that I blame her for not giving into Simon, but she did keep with her list of what she wanted. And that was one thing that I really enjoyed was how this wasn’t an insta-love story. She knew what she wanted and she went after it.
Overall, I think that this was another great addition to the series and I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Sinclair in the future!

A good group of short(ish) stories

I enjoyed all three of these stories, but, as usual, Cherise Sinclair is the best! I read "Master of the Mountain" and "Abyss" earlier, so was glad to read Master Simon and Rona's story, even if a bit out of order. Reading these in the logical order is not necessary to enjoying all of her books.

MET HER MATCH by Sierra Cartwright – 3 stars

This is my first venture into Sierra’s writing so I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this story. MET HER MATCH is a book from Cartwright’s Hawkeye series. I haven’t read the others and I think that did put me at a disadvantage. Cartwright doesn’t really adequately explain what the Hawkeye series is, making it a little hard for new readers like me to really get with the story in that regard.

However, I did like her writing style and voice. I enjoyed the Irish flair that she added into Master Torin. He was a stern Dom, but a fair one. I also found that Mira’s strength was nicely displayed even as she fully gave herself over to Torin.

Overall, it was a nice introduction to Cartwright’s work. I’ll be looking forward to other titles by her.

EDUCATING EVANGELINE by Belina McBride – 3 stars

EDUCATING EVANGELINE was my second favorite book of this anthology. Also as my first book by McBride, I found that I immediately enjoyed her writing style. It was easy, flowing and eloquent. But perhaps the best thing about this story is the way McBride is able to integrate the paranormal elements so effortlessly. As the only paranormal shape-shifting story in this anthology, McBride could either have stood out greatly or could have been overshadowed by the BDSM contemporaries. I think she managed to hold her own and delivered a story that was solid, filled with lore and love.

SIMON SAYS: MINE by Cherise Sinclair – 5 stars

Just reading the title gives me Goosebumps and Sinclair’s story in this anthology was the shining star! Sinclair was the #1 reason why I decided to read this anthology in the first place and boy, does she deliver!!

Master Simon is one of the more popular Doms at Dark Haven and he holds the key to my heart. I loved how he handled Rona, a more tentative and older submissive. They are such a pair and Sinclair gives them a story that is definitely worth checking out. If you are a fan of MASTER OF THE MOUNTAIN, then this has a similar feel to it. Just know that you will be begging for more after reading this!
