Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Kenzie is a Superstar Gymnast with super strength. This outstanding ability enables her to excel in tumbling, but it causes problems in her performance on the balance beam. If she doesn't control her strength, she does not land where she intends and she once broke the beam during an exhibition with all the parents of the Superstars in attendance. Her teammates snickered and began calling her B.B. — short for Beam Breaker. Kenzie must overcome her fears and practice controlling her strength before the next competition. Encouragement comes from her coach, her best friend, and, surprisingly, from a team member that Kenzie had viewed as a rival. Effervescent preteen girls are portrayed in bright colors which adds to the action described in the text. Includes an interview with Kenzie Winz, a Gymnastics Timeline with nine dates spanning the years from 2500 BC to 2010 AD, and a glossary of gymnastic terms. An accessible book with a positive message for young sports fans. "Sports Illustrated Kids" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
