Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Cathy Puett Miller
A part of the "Easy-to-Read Spooky Tale" series, this chapter book fits nicely in young hands. A slim and quick read, the story and pictures quickly grab the reader's attention and do not let go until the end. The simple black-and-white illustrations contrast with the colorful cover and break up the text. If you enjoy stories within stories, this book is for you. While Marco, Leon, and their unnamed friend, the narrator, are exploring, each weaves a tale. They each have a different yarn and provide a different explanation as to why they should be careful and heed the warning: "Don't go near the water!" In the end, they learn the wisdom of that warning. Pick your favorite story or write your own, but remember—whatever you do—"Don't go near the water!"
