In my first year in third grade my teachers read this to the class, and I enjoyed it. I bought this book about a week ago nearly twenty years later, and it took me two days to complete it. I still enjoyed it. It was about a girl named Laurie who was being abused by her mother. Her mother Annabelle is constantly moving Laurie in fear of her abuse to Laurie will be discovered. Laurie is longing to escape this abuse. Will it happen? Read it to find out.

This book is about an 11-year-old girl named Laurie. Her mother abuses her. For example, she pushed Laurie down the stairs, threw boiling water on her, cut her with a knife, and much more. Laurie has thought of her mother 'Annabelle' for as long as she can remember and she isn't sure why Annabelle mistreats her, but she think it is because she, Laurie, looks like her father who deseted her and her mother when she was three. Laurie is afraid of what Annabelle would do if she told someone how she is abused by her mother. Will she ever have the courage to tell someone? Read and find out!

Author:Willow Davis Roberts Date of Review: May 19, 2003 A little girl name Laurie lives with her mother, step-brother, an step-sister. Her mother, Annabele is very abusive towards Laurie. She is always abusing her for dumb reasons. This suspensful book is a real page turner and very easy to get into. I wouldn't mind reading it again.

I thought the book was fantastic. The title of the book is what really got my attention.Even before I considered buying it, I was very drawn into the book. It only took me two days to read it. Laurie is a girl with great potential, but is blinded by her mother's abusiveness. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something that is ful of action and makes you want to read more about it.

This book is a wonderful story about an eleven year old girl who is beaten by her mother. It goes into very little detail about the beatings, but it is slightly disturbing. Recommended for ages 11-13.

I don't recall which grade I was in when I first read this book, but I know it was probably somewhere in grades 6-8. I'm 32 now (yikes!) It has stuck with me for years; I can't remember specifics, but I do remember the hurt and anxiety I felt while reading the story. This is an excellent book that addresses a very serious topic. I highly recommend it for 5th or 6th graders and up. Matter of fact, I may purchase it just to read it again!

This book is great for 5th grade and up. Talks about abuse and what it can do and how it can hurt people.Itis not very graphic about the abuse, it gives the young readers an idea without scaring them. A very good book.
