Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
In the new millennium, many, perhaps even most Americans take international travel for granted. In the spirit of rethinking the seemingly obvious, Lonely Planet's Sam Benson decided to tally the reasons for traveling abroad. His energetic enumeration offers no fewer than 52 reasons to obtain a passport; from "Witness History in the Making" to "Seek Your Own Higher Power." Benson punctuates his persuasions with neat sidebars and nifty lists on things like "The Top 10 Safest Countries" and "Five Ways to Make the First Move." The perfect nudge for a reluctant traveler.

Lonely Planet guides are a must-pack
— Toronto Star, February 2006
Library Journal
Only about 6 percent of Americans have passports. Lonely Planet and eight of its writers want to change that by showing that a passport is more than just a form of identification. It's a ticket to the world and all of its wonders (ride a rickshaw, Reason #23; watch wildlife, #37; find a fountain of youth, #18). The book is packed cover to cover with such tidbits as the "Top Five Toilet Paper Stand-Ins," "Top Ten Music Festivals," "Seven Wonders of a Traveler's World," and what smoked monkey knuckles taste like. As enjoyable as this book is, it's difficult to ascertain its audience. People who love to travel already know the reasons to have a passport, while those who refuse to budge beyond their borders will find little here to make them change their mind. Still, it's a fun book to read and a great way to spend time en route to your next adventure. Recommended as a secondary purchase for public libraries.-Joseph L. Loved it!

This book was small, yet inspiring. I have always wanted to travel and this book was the perfect motivator. If you have ever had fears about traveling or just don't want to bother with expenses reading this could very well change your mind. It definitley made me want to go out and experience new cultures!
