A ROMANTIC SUSPENSE NOVEL... No one knew a woman lived there or that she even existed. A monster, living in darkness...

At twenty-two, Nicole doesn't even look human anymore. The beast made sure of that. So she hides. A monster, consigned to a life of fear and solitude. This is all she deserves, she is quite sure of that.
And then one day out of the blue, the autographed baseball caught by Brian Jensen at the latest Marlins game enters her prison and manages to turn her world completely upside down.

Temptation comes in the form of pity at first, and then perhaps something more. Does she dare to believe the things she's told, that this is not the life she was meant to live? That being a monster is not her forever-fate? And will she be willing to risk everything, to reach out and accept the helping hands around her and share her deepest, darkest secrets? She knows only too well that hands can hurt. Finding out whether they can also heal is a risky proposition, especially when the beast is still out there. Looking for her.

This is a truly amazing book.  I loved it It does not matter how many reviews you and I read, or how many people we speak to about this book - this is one of those books you have to experience for yourself.  I was quite nervous to start reading the book as the subject is not one I would normally read, but I am so glad I did. It is a beautifully written story, it is written with compassion and love which makes this very difficult subject easier to absorb.  It touched me deeply, and I hope I walked away from the experience a little wiser to what goes on behind closed doors, but it also makes me wonder how many of the women we come into contact with on a daily basis are hiding a secret they cannot share – because they are either too afraid to, or they are too ashamed to. I loved this story.  It may be a story about abuse and the awful repercussions of that abuse, but it is also a story about hope.  It is about the kindness of strangers, and it is about love, and the realization that you are not alone, and that you are worthy.  It is a truly uplifting book. One of Elle Casey’s many strengths is her ability to create characters with depth that we can relate to, and as usual she has written a book with some truly awesome characters.  Elle has a special way with young children and her little Liam is especially adorable.  Even ‘John The Abuser’ is so well portrayed that I wished I could storm into the book and do him some serious damage – I hated that man, and that is not a word I use very often. I highly recommend this book, it is beautiful love story that is guaranteed to touch your soul. After every book Elle publishes, I wonder how on earth she can ever top that, but with each subsequent release, she does exactly that.  This is Elle Casey at her very best.

This could have been a great book about a woman overcoming abuse, but the story, so sensitive in nature, was developed as a stereotypical, poorly crafted romance book. The premise is the rescue and recovery of a young woman, who had been imprisoned and abused to the point of massive disfigurement by her boyfriend for three years. This is hard to read about, but you go into the story from the beginning knowing that this is what it is about. No surprises there. Now this may be considered a SPOILER so stop reading here if you wish, but I cannot give an honest review without commenting on the man that is the 'hero' in the story: What I found very unsettling was that the guy that rescued her, the supposed hero of the story, made a move on her a few days after she was released from the hospital and while she was under his care, in his home and without anybody or anywhere to go to. And he kept this on... His behavior was just too creepy and disgusting. It was also so unrelatable: she is so disfigured that people see her as a monster; he does not know her at all and all he is aware of is that she has been abused despicably and that she is terribly traumatized; yet he is 'attracted' to her and asks her for a kiss two days after meeting her under unfathomable circumstances and when she is so vulnerable. I honestly could not stomach the guy's advances and I was conflicted about his feelings and actions all along. The last chapters were also rushed and undeveloped and I found myself skimming through the dialogs. So the book had potential, but it fell flat and sent some very wrong messages.

Wow.. I can totally relate to the girl in the book.. I to dated the devil years ago and didn't think I could get away. To the other review that said the good guy was creepy.. he sooo was not. She needed that in a way that people who have not been through hell don't get. To anyone that has someone put their hands on you in anger or call you demeaning things.. its not your fault.. you can get away and never ever be afraid to ask someone for help. But once you get away never ever go back.

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.  Wow! Fantastic book! Just awesome! I loved it so much and it made me cry so much I couldn’t think I have more tears. It’s not just a story, it’s reality, and when reality comes in, it hurts too much. I like how the story goes; with each chapter you learn something new about the characters. It’s an easy read and an extremly beautiful book. Also, I liked how Nicole grows from her tragic situation to a woman on her feet, and that is remarkable.  First few chapters you get to see and feel how Nicole and Brian live two totally different lives. Nicole is physically and mentally abused by her boyfriend for years, so much that her face no longer looks or feels like it used to. Everyday it's a physical and mental struggle for her. She feels like a monster. At this point I started to cry, I can’t understand why a man would do such a thing, although I know there’s a lot of these insane people all around us. Her situation is so dramatic, that I wanted to get in the book and kill that awful man with my bare hands.  Brian is a man about twenty-eight years old, single father, divorced. He’s a very good man with a beautiful soul, so caring and strong. He’s the one and only who can save Nicole and change her into a powerful woman. Brian takes care of her, brings her into his house, gives her a job, feeds her, loves and protects her. He’s an Angel, he’s the hero.  Later, in Brian’s home, Nicole starts thinking and believing she can trust him, and his son Liam, and hopes for a better life without her abuser John. But, she is constantly frightened that John will find her, take her home and beat her to death. She’s ashamed to show her face, she doesn’t want to live in the room, the house, but every time she looks trough the window, she dreams of being far, far away. She becomes more attached to Liam, who is eight-years old, and starts to love him so much that she’s afraid to leave him and his father.  Together they are strong enough to hope for a peaceful life without fear, without concerns and without John.  Will they make it? Will Nicole become a strong woman again?  Like I said, I loved this book. I recommend it to all woman, but especially to the “boys”, hopefully they will learn something from it. Thank you Elle Casey for this amazing story!

What a truely inspiring book. I experienced every emotion possible while reading this story and I mean every emotion. There is humor, anger, outrage, sympathy, and yes there is love and while there is love in the story there is also so much more to it and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

I knew this book was going to be good but the word good is such a huge understatement, this story was....beautiful, amazing, incredible: all of the above and yet even those words fail to capture how great this story was.  Ever since Elle Casey first announce Don't Make Me Beautiful I've been looking forward to it, playing out different storyline scenarios in my head and I love the fact that no matter how many times I imagined how this book might possibly turn out, I never even came close. She always takes a story so much further than my imagination can reach and in so many different directions that it never ceases to amaze me. I would really like to talk about the story and share some quotes that I saved on my Kindle but I can't. I truly do not want to ruin a moment of this for anyone. I don't even want to post the quotes that really don't give anything away because I feel it could somehow lessen each line for you and trust me, this is a book where you really need to experience each and every word for yourself. This is a powerfully moving book! The book starts out showing two very different worlds. One world full of hope and dreams and another full of hopelessness and nightmares. From the very first line I was sucked in, my heart grew heavy and that sensation only got stronger and stronger. By the end of the book it felt like my heart was turned into glass, shattered into a million pieces, melted down and then remade whole and even better than before. It pains me to know that there are real monsters out there like this, that anyone has ever had to go through anything even remotely similar to what Nicole went through. Domestic abuse is always a subject that needs more awareness and I applaud Elle Casey for writing such a challenging book with the compassion and respect it deserves. I love the fact that majority of the book concentrated on the healing over the horror and I hope this story will be able to help those who may not feel that they are able to help themselves. Many of us have lived in homes with domestic abuse but much like Nicole we do not have to let it define our lives. I know many people might not be able to understand why anyone would stay in a abusive relationship but it's easy for a sane and healthy mind to judge one that no longer is. Basically people like Nicole are prisoners of war. That's the simplest way to think of it. Words like Stockholm Syndrome cannot even begin to truly describe what goes on in a victimized mind and that is only one form of abusive control, there are many unfortunately. Somewhere along the way it's easy to lose yourself out of fear and pain and when that happens you simply go into survival mode. I really don't even know what else to say so I'll just say thank you Elle Casey. Judging by the reviews I've read, your book has brought others the same hope and joy that I felt. It helps to remind many of us that we are not to blame, that we did nothing wrong and do not/did not deserve to be treated poorly and it also reminds me to be vigilant. To be able to offer that helping hand or that shoulder to lean on if someone ever needs it. Don't be afraid to reach out and help others to or to reach out and ask for help. None of us got to where we are today in life on our own. At some point we all need a helping hand. Thank you Elle Casey.

I thought i was about to read a romantic novel, even tho it can be classified under a romance genre. This book is not your average romance. It is written very well and captivates you but it is not for a sensistive natured person. It was a deeply disturbing to read. Nicole goes through unspeakabe cruelness so be prepared it is a book you wont want to put down bevause you keep waiting for things to get better for this poor incredible woman, it is an eye opener on domestic violence.
