The Doom Patrol is one of the greatest creations in comic history. The Doom Patrol in Grant Morrison's hands is absolute genius. Everything Grant Morrison touches is amazing. The knowledge that Grant brings to everything he writes makes the reader feel like they are in a new stratosphere. The man is an exceptional storyteller.

    Worthwhile Temporary Insanity

This is not a comic book collection This is a Grant Morrison comic collection at its least drug-induced, although probably his most creative. First, you meet what remains of the Doom Patrol (who, though much like the X-Men in some ways is acually 3 months older), the perfect group of super-powered misfits, which has a nasty habit of killing off or jading most of its members. The origin of Rebis, a glowing, bandage-covered hermaphrodite with a self- conflicting personality, is pretty disturbing, but wait until you meet Crazy Jane. Pure, albeit twisted, genius. Then, the villains: The Scissormen, quasi- imaginary beings who speak in nonsense and cut things...out of reality Orqwith, City of Miracles, the city of the Scissormen, constructed of the bones of the dead of our world, a demented faerie-tale come alive Red Jack, a homicidal maniac with a god complex and a vast, labirynthine house where he is one and in the background, the mysterious 'Mr. Nobody', a key player in volume 2. Creepy, funny, clever, and truly original. This isn't about a superhero team This is when it's so screwed up, Superman calls for backup: A depressed brain in a machine body, an apathetic androgyne with a semi- split personalty, a woman with 64 personalities and almost as many powers, a crippled supergenius, a retired superhero (medical support), and an ape- faced girl whose imaginary friends aren't so imaginary... Who else?
