Being a busy Mom I relish the few minutes here and there I can sneak away to ready. I found myself sneaking away more often with this book, very compelling. And I must say that it is so refreshing to read a Christian novel vs a steamy romance because I find the stories become a part of you rather than being just another 'good read.' I highly recommend Dora Deane!

    Romance 19th Century Style

Dora Deane is the quintessential Mary Jane Holmes heroine. She is a much put-upon orphan who develops from hapless urchin to vibrant young woman over the course of the novel. If you have read any of Holmes's novels, you ate familiar with the pattern. That is not to say, however, that each novel lacks the individual charms that make for an enjoyable read. Dora Deane is a perfect example. As is standard in a Holmes novel, Dora is ruthlessly exploited by female relatives. They steal her money, turn her into a drudge, and make her into a pawn in their various romantic and mercenary schemes. As is also standard, upright men and virtuous women are deceived for a time, but ultimately come to understand the great worth of the unassuming and selfless Dora. The basic pattern is obvious to the reader, but the fun is in getting there. I found the woman Dora impossible to resist, and the book Dora Deane a delight to read.

As you would probably expect, the romance is strictly G-rated. Dora Deane is not an overtly Christian romance, but Ho
lmes's strong Christian values are evident to the reader. If these paragraphs lead you to believe that you will enjoy this movel, you probably will!
