Children's LiteratureDora, for those who have never turned on the TV to Nick Jr., is a very courageous little explorer who usually peppers the descriptions of her outings with Spanish phrases. In this adventure, she had to overcome a number of obstacles to return her books to the library. She and Boots, her monkey pal, get plenty of help from Backpack. He has a map of the route, a pair of scissors, an umbrella, a rope, life vests and many other items. Kids are challenged to select the correct one to assist Dora. There is an educational focus and a good message about making a concerted effort to return borrowed books. The Spanish word that kids can take away from this adventure is "abre." 2002, Simon/Spotlight/Simon & Schuster, Ages 3 to 6.
