Children's Literature - Julie MinnichDora and Boots want to find the perfect pumpkin so they can make a pie with Abuela. They invite the reader to help. This book involves many of the familiar elements of a Dora story, including Map and the Grumpy Old Troll with a riddle. Dora, Boots and the reader must use their skills recognizing colors and comparing sizes to complete their task. Once they find the perfect pumpkin, they bring it back to Abuela. Dora scoops out the pumpkin seeds while Abuela mixes the ingredients, and then everyone can enjoy the finished pumpkin pie! Kirsten Larson keeps the reader stimulated by asking questions about colors and sizes. The repeated words such as pumpkin and pie are illustrated by small pictures of pumpkins and pies so that readers can engage even the youngest children in reading along. Victoria Miller's illustrations compliment the text with bright orange pumpkins and lush green farms. This is the fourteenth book in Nick Jr.'s "Dora the Explorer's Ready-to-Read" series.
