Publishers Weekly
Gr 2-Dorothy and Mikey was originally published by Penguin Putnam in 2000. The present Spanish translation is well rendered with very readable text and dialog in simple and believable phrases. In this chapter book, Dorothy and Mikey, a pair of lovable hippopatomi, are the best of friends. Of course, this means that they quarrel from time to time. In the first chapter, Mikey insists on being the dashing knight that rescues the hapless princess. Dorothy doesn't see why the princess can't rescue the knight. In the second chapter, Mikey boasts of his athletic abilities and challenges Dorothy to various contests of strength and endurance. After losing to him, Dorothy plans a way to outsmart Mikey. In the final chapter, Mikey won't let Dorothy join him in his games. She's puzzled and hurt until she discovers why he wants to be alone. In all cases, Mikey is brash and arrogant but ultimately sweet. Dorothy is strong and patient and ultimately smarter. Humorous watercolor illustrations portray the two friends engaged in many imaginative activities. Recommended for all collections. M.O.B. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
