Overview

~~ includes all the original illustrations (over 70) by John R. Neill, many of them in color, and a new Preface by Oz expert and Eltanin Editor Joseph Nusbaum. ~~

~~ From the Editor's Preface:

It took eight years for the Wonderful Wizard to make his way back to Oz in 1908. The return was all but inevitable. In Baum’s introduction to Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, he is clearly resigned to delivering what thousands of children had been clamoring for: “Oz — Oz! More about Oz, Mr. Baum!” In the two installments in the Oz series that bridged Wonderful Wizard to this volume, Baum earnestly worked to expand the scope of his fairy-tellings beyond the confines of his first Oz book. The Land of Oz had a host of new characters whose adventures explored expansive themes in gender roles and self-determination. Indeed, Baum only brought Dorothy back in Ozma of Oz amidst another new cast of characters and set the action predominantly in the neighboring country of Ev.

But in Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, Baum recognizes that his readers have a deep-seated love for Oz and long for a reunion of Dorothy with the eponymous humbug wizard from the original story. The result is one of the most light-hearted adventures in the entire Oz series. Baum seems to simply allow himself to have fun in crafting this adventure, and though there are many dark and frightening trials facing Dorothy and her companions, the story is delivered without the weighty themes and heavy consequences of the prior three books.

~~ The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Marvelous Land of Oz, and Ozma of Oz, the books that precede this one in the series, are also available from Eltanin Publishing. Search on "Eltanin", or use this link:

I've been reading the full Wizard of Oz series since childhood. Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz continues Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz after an earthquake transports her there once again. Filled with fantastical creatures, characters and compelling storytelling that fill your imagination. By far more than just a story for children...this book and the entire Oz series is something that adults will certainly enjoy as well.

Dorothy meets her cousin, Zeb, and is riding the horse and buggy home when an earthqake hits, the ground splits, and Dorothy and Zeb are stuck in an underground world. They see many marvelous lands underground, full of surprises! How will Dorothy get home? Read the books and see for yourself! Baum has done it again... created another marvelous book with excitement on every page!!! THIS IS A MUST-HAVE TO YOUR OZ COLLECTION!!!!!
