    I LOVED THIS WINSOME, WITTY STORY!!

    Barbara Suter is one phenomenal storyteller!! Her wonderfully engaging novel tells the story of actress/singer Maggie Barlow. Suffering from some sort of mid-life crisis, Maggie chain-smokes and drinks very excessively. When she is cast as Dorothy in a childrens' theater production of the Wizard of Oz, she becomes acquainted with the cast of delightfully amusing characters. Ms. Suter cleverly shuffles between reality and fantasy with the presence of a fairy godmother who appears from time to time. Every single page of this book was a delight to read! As a middle-aged woman, I could relate to this story in so many ways. I really loved this amazing book and highly recommend that you grab a copy and get reading!!

    I simply loved Dorothy on the Rocks! I both envied our heroine's life and was glad that my own wasn't as fraught with emotional land mines. Mr. Ed was my favorite character -- a dog with guts and brains -- and of course I loved Maggs. She has friends who love her, work that she masters, and demons that she fights every day. What a gal! And what a wonderful read!

    Dorothy is rocky.....

    This book is about 41 year old Maggie Barlow, who is an alcoholic, chain-smoking actress/singer who is having an early midlife crisis. She drinks until she blacks out, wakes up with a strange man in her bed, talks to her neighbors' dog, sees her dead expartner as a tiny fairy godmother dressed in Barbie clothes, works as an actress in childrens' theater but really wants to be a singer, almost gets raped while in Central Park but then picks up her neighbors' lover and almost has sex with him in the park...you get the picture? I don't think Suter could decide if she wanted to write a comedy, a tragedy, a drama, or a fantasy. One thing for sure, it has all of these elements. I think I would have given it a little bit better rating if Maggie hadn't gotten pregnant and then fallen for her dead lover's father......

    Dorothy is hilarious

    Middle aged woman coming to terms with how her life has turned out so far. Dorothy on the rocks is a hilarious read about getting older and the ups and downs of life. Surely to become a hit easy relaxing read.

    I read this book under an umbrella at the beach. I was so completely engrossed in Maggie¿s world that I didn¿t notice the rising tide until a wave spilled across my blanket!! I loved this book ¿ it made me laugh and pulled me in like Maupin¿s ¿Tales of the City.¿ I¿m waiting for the next installment!

    I loved DOROTHY ON THE ROCKS!

    I absolutely loved this book. From the first page I was hooked. Maggie's story is funny enough to make to me laugh and touching in so many wonderful ways I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Thank you Ms. Suter for a terrific experience. I can't wait to read your next book!

    Dorothy REALLY Rocks!

    Stop right here--you've found your perfect summer beach read. Big laughs, big tears, and an adorable dog named Mr. Ed. I absolutely loved this book--and the main character, Maggie--who will remind you of you...or someone you love. Perfect in all of her imperfect glory!

    Dorothy Rocks!!!!

    Barbara Suter is the female David Sedaris! She has crafted a story that is by turns charming, deeply moving, effervescent, and hilarious. Her main character, Maggie, is fully fleshed, clad gloriously in both human frailty and human resilience. Her journey is one I highly recommend!

    Dorothy on the Rocks ROCKS!

    I laughed out loud! I cried too! And bought copies as gifts for all my girlfriends' birthdays! Fantastic ride, funny and tender. I got so caught up in the story I found myself thinking of the 'cast' of characters as if they were friends, wondering how things would turn out for them. And in the end, I didn't want it to end. Can't wait to read Barbara Suter's next novel!
