Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Stoney Winston, Harvard grad and would-be Hollywood script-writer, is functioning meanwhile as a general factotumprop-man, ``director,'' anything that pays the rentfor the shifty operator of a grubby little studio making sexy soda-pop commercials. Suddenly everything changes: an 18-year-old girl specializing in straight hard-core pron is missing; her stepmother is being blackmailed to pay up or a particularly damning film will be released and she will face certain ruin in business. Can Stoneytough-talking, without illusions, endowed with an uncommon gift for finding anythingfind film and girl? The hunt will lead him through the porn foundries and other moral sewers of movieland, through bloodshed and assorted mayhem. Stinson is clever and witty, and his hero is often too much of a wise-guy for his ownand the reader'sgood, but this is a literate mystery and an entertaining read. November

GREAT READ. LITERATE. SUSPENSEFUL WITH A WRY TAKE ON HOLLYWOOD

DOUBLE EXPOSURE, as a mystery, has that special quirkiness that takes it out of the run-of-the-mill alphabet series. Stinson's characters are amusing and original, including his imaginary Hollywood companions. I like mysteries that are an entertaining read with an out of the ordinary author, not just cookie-cutter who-done-its. This one fills the bill in spades.

A unique take on murder. The book starts well before the murder takes place and when a young women is found dead she is misidentified; leading to two more murders. This author uses very colorful word picture descriptions. This is a great read that shows a little blackmail can set-off a chain reactions of unintended consequences.

    Boring!!!!

Story line was good but tended to drag out too long. For the most part, the book was boring. Too much jumping around. I found the dialog with his imaginary characters boring. I sped read to the end to see what the outcome was and did a lot of skipping. Would not recommend.

Casual read. Not terribly thought provoking, but there were some decent twists. Unfortunately the author seemed a little hung up on what I could only call adolescent sexual fantasies, which I feel detracted from the plot. There are some odd formatting errors that replace the first letter of some sentences with another letter, space or punctuation mark, which is distracting. Overall an ok read if you don't mind formatting errors and lapses into adolescent fantasies (including at inappropriate times such as upon seeing a dead female.)

Stupid story line, trite and lousy editing

This was about the lamest story line that I have encountered; thank goodness it was free! The story line was a retread of several others, and the characters were trite. The ending was all too predictable. But, even if those were my only complaints, it would have been tolerable. What made this e-book so bad was the lousy editing. For example, every A. became a ". this book was set in Los Angeles (L.A.) so every reference to the city (and there were many) looked like this: L." If it was part of a sentence spoken by a character, then sentences might read like this: "It was hot today," said the main character. "Even hotter than the typical L." summer day." This is just one example. There are a lot of misspelled words, odd sentences that are not complete sentences, and so forth. This book is not even worth free.

    Highly recommended

What you have here is murder, Hollywood, and a great story line. Jim Stinson really captures the essence of the scene and develops great characters. Once I started the book, I got enthralled in the plot and the writing. I plan to read more of his books.
