Overview

The young girl with the Bohemian style was on the floor where she’d fallen, between Parker's computer case and her file cabinet. She wore a long, flowing skirt—lavender, the color of calm—and camel-colored Uggs. She lay on her back, her long, wavy blonde hair matted with blood.

For struggling singer/songwriter Parker James, the music business has just turned deadly. Her desk in the reception area of a busy recording studio has become a crime scene, and Parker finds herself drawn into a mystery where nothing is as it seems.

Unraveling the truth puts her own life at risk when she uncovers high-level industry corruption and is terrorized by a menacing stalker. As the danger escalates, Parker begins to question her dreams, her future, and even her faith.

Double Minds is a double treat—combining a compelling suspense novel with an inside look at the world of the Christian music industry in Nashville. Terri Blackstock grabs readers at page one and keeps them riveted until the final plot twist is untangled.

    Engaging murder mystery

This book is a quick and easy read that keeps you engaged for the entire book. The story line is original and if you like music, you will enjoy that the book uses the music industry as a backdrop. There are good family relationships, and interesting characters, but best of all, it is a God honoring book.

    FOR REAL

We all have friends like the ones Terri Blackstock introduces us to; however most of us don't have this kind of danger around us! A fun read showing us how we get wrapped up in self and our appearance; only to find that reality isn't always what we think it should be.

    Double Minds leaves no doubt

Terri Blackstock has written another great book. The characters are warm and engaging with real life issues. Struggles which are inherent in a lot of lives will give readers a way to connect. The plot draws you in with hints and clues to the mystery.

I don't recommend this book for younger readers, but it would be great for older teens to see that the lifestyle of musicians isn't as glamorous as the media portrays.

    Well done.

    Secrets Revealed in Double Minds

Terri Blackstock begins this murder mystery with a bang!! Not only is this stand-alone book filled with suspense, mystery and intrigue, it's very thought provoking. I love how this author weaves the tough questions of life throughout this gripping tale.

Songwriter Parker James, has written some Top 10 Christian songs for her friend Serena. Serena is about to sign a deal with a Billboard record company to expand her audience. Parker is struggling with her friend's decision to sign with a secular label. Parker's brother says to her ".God doesn't only call us to do things in Christian arenas. I'm not a Christian cop. I'm a cop who's a Christian. I don't just solve Christian murders." I LOVED this line. How true is this? Ever struggle with that in your life? Parker struggles with that and more.

Parker learns of others agony and struggles through the course of this murder mystery. Her mother says "...a person had to want freedom more than bondage before God would grant it.(freedom) Prayers of the double-minded often went unanswered." Wow!! Terri Blackstock has so many profound moments right from the beginning of this thrilling story up to the end. I know you'll enjoy the message and excitement of this book so much you'll be compelled to share this with a friend or two.

    DOUBLE MINDS: BLACKSTOCK'S BEST YET!!

Terri Blackstock has masterfully created a page turning depiction of truth about the conflicts Christians face while trying to use their gifts and talents.

The suspense definitely was in keeping with her "up all night" fiction. The ending was surprising.

Blackstock sat down with my in my easy chair and helped me get to know the characters in a way I've never experienced. She bellowed the songs from the deep within the hearts of the characters... honest...transparent...vulnerable... murderous... envious... caring... self-serving... selfless...

We all have double minds and we strive to maintain balance in both worlds. Blackstock has captured the essence of this stuggle in a page-turning, surprise-ending, novel of suspense.

Excellent! Exciting! Compelling! Revealing! A must read for... well... for anyone who still has a breath of life!

    Christian Music Industry Mystery

This is one terrific book with a fascinating plot, well-rounded characters, a steady pace, a few twists and turns, and a satisfying ending. What more could a reader want? I began reading it this morning, and I did not stop until I finished it. I did not want to stop!

The protagonist, Parker James, is a female Christian song writer who lives in Nashville. I learned so much about the Christian music industry: song writing, photographing the album cover and publicity shots, recording a CD, contracts, going out on tour, performing, and the interaction between singer and band. Parker's brother is a police officer, and the reader is treated to a glimpse inside the minds of officers as they work to solve a crime.

Without being "preachy" appropriate biblical references are interspersed throughout the novel. Study questions are at the back of the book. This is a winner, and I give it a big thumbs up!

This is Christian suspense at its best

In Nashville, Christian songwriter Parker James is highly regarded for her inspiring lyrics, but wants the chance to sing her songs. She knows pride is one of the seven deadly sins, but still hopes to have a chance. Still she does her best writing and working as a receptionist at Colgate Studios.

Parker is stunned when her brother Homicide Detective Gibson James text messages her to come to the studio. She learns that Belmont University student and an intern Brenna Evans was shot to death. Assisting her brother with his investigation, Parker wonders if she was the intended target as her work area as the studio receptionist is where the victim was killed; though she cannot fathom why someone would want her dead.

The superb whodunit adds deep excitement to a strong thought provoking Christian thriller with an apt title. Terri Blackstock provides an intriguing look at modern American Christian thought with dedicated believers struggling to adhere to scripture while also trying to make it in the wider world. Parker¿s BFF Serene has a chance to break out beyond the relatively small pond of Christian music to that of the oceanic sized pop scene, but would need Parker to modify lyrics that would still remain inspiring yet take them outside scripture. This is Christian suspense at its best as Ms. Blackstock takes her readers outside their pious comfort zone.

Harriet Klausner

I enjoyed this book as much for the music environment it takes place in as the mystery and struggles of the story. I really enjoyed the song writer sharing her thought process of how she creates and allows the Lord to guide her as she is an instrument in his hand to spread his message. It is her struggle of how important this message is and if she is willing to compromise with the world’s standards in order to gain more fame. This message is accomplished without being corny, unreal, or preachy.

It is a suspense driven story that interweaves faith with real life issues such as betrayal, theft, addiction, divorce and eating disorders. It demonstrates that a Christ centered life is not trouble free or perfect but that faith allows them to deal with their struggles. I appreciate the close, loving family atmosphere that is such a blessing for our protagonist.

I really like one review that compared Double Minds to our struggle through life with one foot on the right path and one on the left. We can be double minded when confronted with choices and must choose which path we will ultimately take.

    AWESOMETASTIC THRILLING SUSPENSE!

Terri Blackstock is a fantastic Christian suspense author. The best, in my opinion. She starts her novels off straight away with the suspense, keeps the twists, turns, ins and outs coming through out each page, never revealing too much, too soon. By the final pages of the story, the reader is left on the edge of their seat, trying to slow their breathing down.

Double Minds is thrilling awesome. Parker James, receptionist for a Christian recording studio, gets a call from her detective brother. The reason? A murder at the studio. She leaves her concert to go to the studio. The victim? An intern receptionist filling in for Parker. It really throws her world for a loop, especially when her home is invaded. But, the question is....why are they after Parker? Why is someone invading her home, trying to kill her, stealing her music? What has she done?

Those are some of the many questions answered in the pages of the awesometastic novel. It's a stand alone, so you aren't coming in in the middle of a story line. It's got fantastic suspense, page-turning plot line, gripping characters and it draws you to the heart of Parker's story. A mix of faith in God to pull you through, betrayal, forgiveness, heartache and family, this is a story that you won't want to miss.

I definitely, highly, recommend this with a 5 Book rating. It will send you on a spin to find out who the killer is, and will leave you hungry for more Blackstock work. I can't wait to read more of her work! Why are you still sitting there? Shouldn't you be hunting down Double Minds??? It will so take you on a whirl wind roller coaster ride!

Double Minds: A Look Into the World of Christian Music

Terri Blackstock has written another winner with Double Minds. This story is about a successful songwriter, Parker, who wants to be a singer as well. Her family, especially her mother, encourages her in her pursuit of her dream. Parker's friend, Serene, is already a star who struggles with anorexia.

There's a hint of romance in this tale between Parker and Daniel, a youth pastor/guitar player, but it's not the main story. If you want a look into how artists record their music, this story provides interesting detail. I highly recommend Double Minds for anyone who's a fan of Terri's, and for those who like to read suspense.
