I liked this book because it was an action filled, multi-event book. I love books like this because it was not just scenery descriptions. I would recommend this book to people who like watching baseball, because the author tells you what happens each inning out of the five games.

Danny thinks she is copying him in the way he plays.

Danny Walker thinks the girl shortstop of the other team might steal dannys' shot to be in the allstar team. Danny notices that the Tammy Akien has the same batting stance and plays the same way he does. Will Tammy steal Dannys' spot in the allstars team

Outstanding

I am a 6th grade student in Glendale, AZ.

"Double Play at Short", by Matt Christopher is a story about a baseball player, Danny Walker, the "Bullets" shortstop and their best hitter. Danny is a shoe-in for the county's all-star team. However, there is one problem, an outstanding girl on the Jaguar's team named Tammy Aiken. She also plays shortstop and like Danny, is an excellent hitter. The Bullets are playing the Jaguars in a five game championship series. Danny doesn't know how good the Jaguars shortstop is until she gets up to bat. In the first game of the series, Tammy hits a home run. Danny begins to wonder if she is a better player than him. With the help of Tammy, the Jaguars took the first win. Danny rode his bike home with his sister Jennifer who always comes to the games and supports him. Danny was still worried that Tammy would take his spot on the all-star team. So worried, that he forgot it was his birthday. When Danny walked into his house, his parents and the whole Bullets baseball team jumped and cheered Happy Birthday!!!!! Danny had a great birthday. The next day Danny and his best buddy, Joel Jackson, went to the public library to look up Tammy Aiken. The only information found about her was the fact that she moved into town a short while ago. The series goes on and the record is 2-2. After the third game, Danny's mom tells him that Tammy is his adopted twin sister. Danny was so surprised, except for the fact that they were both great baseball players. At the end of the fourth game, Danny goes by the Jaguars dugout and the two shortstops start arguing. In the end, Danny yells out, " you are my twin sister"! Danny felt really bad when Tammy ran away balling her eyes out. Danny later wrote Tammy a letter apologizing for putting her under more pressure before the last game. He was sorry for telling her the now, instead of waiting until after the last game. Then came the last game. It was the last inning, the score was 3-3, and a runner on third, and the tie run on third. Danny was up to bat, whack, Danny hits a line drive up the middle, and a two run RBI!! The inning was over, and the Jaguars were up to bat. The Bullet's pitcher wasn't doing well and walked the bases loaded with two outs. The Jaguars pinch hitter came up to bat for the pitcher and everyone was nervous. 3-2 count bam, going, going, gone and Danny was depressed. The Bullets and the Jaguars met up at home plate to shake hands. The two shortstops met and ignored each other until everyone was done shaking. Afterwards, they gave one another a huge hug and happily walked off the field together. The main characters in this book are Tammy Aiken and Danny Walker. They are both athletic and have shy attitudes. The setting was usually at the baseball field and in modern day. I relate to this book because I have been in a championship game and lost. I can relate this to the real world because many of my friends have been on the opposing winning team .I liked this book cause I like baseball and it had a lot of surprising parts. Two books I recommend are Power Pitcher and Stealing Home
