Overview

Double Rainbows is a collection of autobiographical short stories that reflect on the joys and tribulations of childhood, seen both from the viewpoint of being a child and fathering a child. White Feather reveals his early leanings towards spirituality as well as music. He fondly remembers his father’s Zen-like influence and he relates his mother’s atheism and its affect on him. He tells stories of his first encounter with information about Edgar Cayce as well as his first encounter with the Beatles. Synchronicities with John Lennon weave through two stories. From childhood to young adulthood, the stories move on to fatherhood and a coinciding spiritual awakening involving sweat-lodge ceremonies and the Harmonic Convergence. Psychic prophecy also weaves through some of the stories. Through it all White Feather reveals one of his greatest teachers. This new expanded edition contains two new additional stories.

    AUTUMNWIND'S FATE - CHAPTER FOUR

CHAPTER FOUR: Autumnkit stood, frozen in shock and horror, as Risingkit's body fell to the ground. "No," she whispered. "Nononono!" She pressed her head into Moosekit's flank. Moosekit didn't react, his eyes fixed on his brother's limp body. They stood like that, silently, wordlessly, comforting each other, until the last badger had been driven out of the camp. Then Autumnkit broke away and dashed to Risingkit. Her brother's eyes stared ahead, unseeing, frozen in pain. She pushed her muzzle into his blood-soaked fur and murmered, "We were gonna be apprentices together, you, me, and Moosekit. We were gonna have our warrior ceremony together." She squeezed her eyes shut. SUNFLIGHT'S POV: Sunflight sank her claws into the badger's nose and sent it reeling out of camp. It felt good to fight again, to feel the blood rushing through her veins, to feel her claws inflict pain on her enemies. She turned to Darksnow, her eyes bright with a manic happiness. She padded to him and pressed against him. He licked her cheek. Sunflight looked for her kits, and her eyes were drawn to Autumnkit bent over her brother. Her daughter's cream fur was stained red with Risingkit's blood. Sunflight made her body tremble and her eyes widen. "What's wrong?" Darksnow asked. Sunflight pointed with her tail. "Our daughter killed Risingkit."
