Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The mice, Max, Molly and Mel, have found a great home. They are living in a doughnut factory. It is a great place until the rats move in. Determined to expel the rats and keep their home, the mice set out on a dangerous romp. While the doughnuts provide a silly backdrop, the animosity between the gangster rats and the nice mice is real. If caught, the mice will be hurt. This tension maybe too much for some of the younger readers, but certainly provides excitement. The idea of rodents staking out a doughnut factory may also turn off some adults, but this is not a story for health inspectors. It's an adventure that will keep the early reader turning pages, if for no other reason then to see Chris Fisher's bright pictures. Backmatter includes sections about the author and illustrator and strategies for independent readers. 2003, Kingfisher/Houghton Mifflin Company, Ages 6 to 9.
