This is another song book that if you are not familiar with the song, it will not make a lot of sense. So, I advise getting the CD to go along with it. Raffi CD's are fabulous as a rule, so it is not money wasted! As a kindergarten teacher, I recommend this book for phonemic awareness. Rhyming ability is critical as a pre-reading skill. This book is not only fun and entertaining, but it is perfect for working on rhyming. Once you are familiar with the format of the book, you can make up your own silly rhymes like, "Did you ever see a dino . . . kissing a rhino? Down by the bay!" or, "Did you ever see a cat . . . with a polka dot hat? Down by the bay!" On our recent trip to WA D.C., we ran into a little boy singing this song. I think he was around 3. I joined in and the family eagerly asked, "What is he singing? We have no clue!" That little boy and I sang away, and I let them know about Raffi! They were so excited to finally know the source.
a boy and girl are by a bay and they make up rhymes
