Down Memory Lane [Sony]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Jason Birchmeier
Oriented toward the British market, Down Memory Lane is a double-disc compilation released by Sony Music that compiles sentimental favorites from the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. Another exceptional inclusion is "One Day When We Were Young," a contemporary recording by Patricia Hammond of an old song written by Oscar Hammerstein II. While there are many often-compiled songs on Down Memory Lane, such as Harry Belafonte's "Island in the Sun" and Duke Ellington's "Take the 'A' Train," there are also plenty of rarely ...

The balance between familiar and unfamiliar makes Down Memory Lane a good listen for all levels of consumers, from those with only a passing interest in old-time music like this to those who already have a bunch of compilations like this in their collection. Far too often, these type of compilations tend to feature the same material that's been compiled time and time again. It's good to see one like Down Memory Lane that includes some lesser-known material alongside all the marquee names and timeless favorites.
