A family trip to the farm turns out to be a lot more than Emily is expecting in this early introduction to graphic novels. Emily has been dreaming of riding a horse but she did not count on all the chores there are to required on a farm before the fun can begin. After lunch her friend Aidan takes her along to help with his daily list of chores before setting out on an afternoon horseback ride. Emily is exhausted before they are through, but she quickly perks up when she hears it is finally time for her long awaited ride. Readers are even given a brief tutorial on how to read a graphic novel and reluctant readers will be drawn right in by the easy-to-follow story and cheerful illustrations. Teachers will find the discussion questions at the back helpful as well as the writing prompts that offer a way to easily integrate the book into a lesson plan.
