Hey You Beautiful Doll!

Before you begin shopping for your wedding dress—or any dress for that matter—there is one thing I want you to remember. Style is not about size; it's about attitude.

If you feel like a frump on the inside, I can guarantee you will look like a frump on the outside—no matter what you are wearing. On the other hand, if you feel beautiful on the inside, you will naturally project a beauty that is visible on the outside. . . .

Full-figured women have made tremendous strides in front of the camera, in the glittering lights of Hollywood, and on the runway, but the most important stride any of us can make is in our own self-acceptance.

So, what does being a full-figured woman mean? Well, if you ask most people they will likely say it means you are fat or big with no distinction between either. Conversely, if you ask people what it means for a man to be big, you will hear answers like tall and muscular, even buff, before you hear the word fat. . . .

Look at it this way: the only actual difference between a size 4 and a size 14 is the number. Body shapes are universal and don't change by dress size. A pear-shaped size 6 will follow the same style guidelines when choosing a wedding gown as a pear-shaped size 18. There may be differences in the details, but the only substantial difference between the dresses is the size.

And while I'm on my soapbox, full-figured doesn't mean unhealthy or lazy any more than it means fat. For the last few years the focus of the media has been on weight rather than health—as if to say that all skinny people are healthy. Contrary to popular belief, size-four women don't fall into the stereotype of healthy and happy any more than full-figured women fall into the stereotype of sitting at home all day eating despondently. I'm all for losing weight to better your health, but if you're not happy with yourself, no amount of weight loss is going to help. Thin women may be in the media's spotlight, but happy women get more out of life, no matter what their figure may be.

Simply put, this is not an issue of them versus us. There are only women! And like all women, full-figured women deserve to be happy, to have confidence, to love and be loved by others, and to look absolutely fabulous on their wedding day! Every woman can look in the mirror and like everything she sees.

So get ready to learn how to bring out your own natural beauty, regardless of your shape or size, and have the time of your life doing it. Get ready to become the most beautiful bride your groom has ever seen!
