Down the Road in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam: A Bicycle Tour Through War, Genocide and Forgiveness [NOOK Book]

Overview

"Freedom is addictive" Bicycle touring, for the Travises, is the purest realization of a free life. Tim and Cindie travel farther outside their comfort zone than ever before. They encountered oppressive communism, thieves; and a fist fight with a drunken man in rural Vietnam. Exposure to War and Genocide were reminders of how precious life can be. Despite all this the Travises once again were humbled by the warmth and friendliness of humanity.

Editorial Reviews

Midwest Book Review
No mode of transportation other than walking is more personal than the bicycle. "Down the Road in Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam: A Bicycle Tour Through War, Genocide, and Forgiveness" is a memoir from Tim & Cindie Travis as they recount their ride through Southeast Asia and their particular adventures and misadventures. An exciting story well dotted with photographs, "Down the Road in Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam" is a choice read for armchair travelers, highly recommended.

This is the second of the Travis' books i have and i've had their first book as an audio book.
Makes an interseting read though it is a tad light on after reading the EXCELLENT two books by Alastair Humphries.
I was very impressed with the speedy delivery to me here in Australia - about the same time it takes a book to be delivered when bought domestically - very impressive indeed.
Happy shopper yet again.
Cheers and beers

Meet the Author

Tim Travis has been everything from a bicycle mechanic to a Special Education Teacher with a Masters degree. Cindie Travis worked as a geologist prior to the start of their epic adventures. Tim started riding bicycles in the mid-1970’s with a Campy five-speed bike, wool shorts and one of those funny leather helmets that cyclists wore back then. The bicycle racing movie, Breaking Away, hit the theaters and he quickly fell into racing. He was immersed in racing until he graduated from Indiana University in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Cindie rode a bike during college and started riding again when she met Tim. They did one of their first tours on their honeymoon and Cindie was hooked on bicycle touring ever since. Tim enjoys spending his days living international bike touring adventures and nights writing about them in his tent. Cindie loves the simplicity and challenge of life on the road.
