Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Upper elementary and older reluctant readers will escape from the everyday world with this book-length chapter book cum comic strip. With a tornado predicted, Wiley and his balding, snaggle-toothed, Hippie Grampa defy Gramma and spend Halloween night at Colonel Dracula's Monster Truck Spectacular. Their adventures are silly rather than scary when they volunteer to drive a British Mini Pip-Squeak over a flaming pit of robot shellfish, eat a tarantula burger, visit Drac's private lair, and escape with the help of an angry Gramma when Drac chases them. Black and white cartoon drawings match prose like "The tension was unbearable, as was Grampa's underarm odor" (p. 43). Of course, all turns out okay because Drac wants only to buy Gramma's 1956 Buick. The back cover describes this tale as "outrageous" and that really says it all.
School Library Journal
Gr 2-5-Wiley and Grampa triumph over the supernatural forces invading their hometown. In the first book, they meet Colonel Dracula and his "Mudsucker"-a blood-guzzling vampire truck. The next title puts toxic borscht to good use in battling an army of zombies that arrives uninvited at a backyard barbeque. Nothing seems to faze Wiley and his grandparents, who are rather inventive when it comes to vanquishing their enemies. Each story finishes with a "Crackpot Snapshot" game, where readers must find all of the small differences between two almost identical pictures. With black-and-white cartoons on every page, this series is similar in appearance and theme to Jim Benton's "Franny K. Stein" (S & S) and Dav Pilkey's "Captain Underpants" (Scholastic) books, making it a welcome high-interest choice for younger or reluctant readers.-Kathleen Meulen, Blakely Elementary School, Bainbridge Island, WA Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
Readers will scream, but definitely not in terror, at this tale of a truly unforgettable Halloween outing. After attempting to warn off timorous "Ladies and gentlemen, boys, girls, dogs, and upper marsupials," young Wiley and his Grampa slip away from Gramma to take readers on a stroll through a dark and stormy night. Off they go to Colonel Dracula's Monster Truck Spectacular, which features such huge-tired machines as the Behemoth Broncosaurus, Vlad the Impala and the Mudsucker-billed as "the vorld's [sic] first and only vampire truck!" Highlighted by a visit to the jocular Colonel's dank den and a crazy careen home with Gramma at the wheel, chased by both a tornado and the aforementioned Mudsucker, the tale zooms by in a flash-not least because Simpsons-style illustrations occupy at least as much page space as does the text-and should zoom off the shelves with the speed of a Captain Underpants episode. Next up: Grampa's Zombie BBQ (0-316-05943-9 trade, 0-316-0594200 paperback). (Fantasy. 10-12)

    'Scrogg's Masterpiece'

I would recomend this book to all ages, with hilariously funny sentences and easy wordplay so people can understand better.I also think that Scrogg with Wiley And Grampa books has defeated Captain Underpants,Rotten School and almost beat The Time Warp Trio.Scrogss has knocked the ball out of the park with Wiley And Grampa sereries.
