Another warrior is born with a twist...

Rain Mauri and the cast of post-apocalyptic survivors are back in the sequel to Dragon Warrior, still fighting to survive in a world returned almost to the level of prehistoric survivalism by massive disasters involving, you guessed it, big nasty dragons. Of course, as in all distopian realities, the greatest danger to mankind remains: Mankind. Specifically in this case, the sorry remnants of the pre-disaster Marine corps, who have degenerated to something more like a gang, though with better weaponry and scientific know-how than has been preserved elsewhere.
Much like the first volume in the series, Dragon Lord is an action-packed adventure with romantic plotlines upping the stakes for everyone involved. The second book expands the first story by including more characters, and while I may personally have preferred to see the scope of the world expanded as well beyond the same locales and root conflicts of the first book, that's really just a taste thing. On its own terms, DL maintains the same standards of DW, being a well-told story wherein intriguing and engaging characters struggle not only for their own survival, but for each other.
