Mommy Bookworm's Thoughts: I thoroughly enjoyed this book right from the get-go all the way through to the end. Like Dahlia states below, I don't really like having to wait for the next book to come out, but I guess that's the life of getting sucked into a series!! I tend to stay away from many series type books, but I truly enjoyed Dragon Stones and I look forward to the other books in the series! The descriptions of the dragons and characters in the book are very good and believable! My daughters and I read this together on our Nook Color and took turns reading each time. They were able to increase their vocabulary and we had fun reading it. We laughed and cried along the way and were shocked at some of the things revealed in the story. It was a great page-turner, full of dragons, dwarfs, humans, dragon riders, sprites, evil necromancers, close calls, magic and mystery with every chapter!
The information received from the publisher has this classified as Young Adult/Fantasy. However, I believe that children ages 8+ would truly enjoy the story. Daisy is 7 years old and she did sometimes get distracted as we were reading aloud, but she still enjoyed the parts she did listen to and pay attention to along the journey. Teenagers could definitely read the book on their own and enjoy it - if they enjoy dragons and magic!
Dahlia Bookworm's Thoughts (11 years old): I like how the book caught my attention right from the Prologue and kept my attention through the whole book. I like how the map is in the front of the book so we could look at the map when it mentions different places in the book. I do not like that there is a cliffhanger and I have to wait a while before the next book comes out. I like how they had troubles in each place they went and still got away. I like the dragons and characters in the book. I can read it mostly on my own with a little help with some words and names. I would recommend it to kids of all ages and grown-ups too, especially those who like dragon stories.
Daisy Bookworm's Thoughts (7 years old): I like how there were dragons in the book. I like the adventures they went on. I like some of the surprises in the story. I don't like how I have to wait for the next book to find out what happens. I think the names in the book are funny. I got to learn some new words because we took turns reading the book. I would recommend it to other kids too because it is a fun story.

Dragon Stones had me hooked from the first chapter. I love reading books about wizards, magical creatures, and anything else magical so it's no surprise that I enjoyed this book. I liked Elias from the moment I met him and how he was so brave and didn't complain about having to runaway with the rare and dangerous Dragon Stone. I also really liked the dwarf who's helping him, Thorin. He always knows what to do and his personality is just so likable. This book kind of reminded me of Eragon, with the whole dying Dragon Race and the fight of evil vs. good. I felt like Dragon Stones was just the opening book, like there wasn't really a whole lot of things going on but it was necessary to build up to the next book. It was never boring, but it was just too short and I wished that it went on a little bit longer. The ending was a great twist and cliffhanger, so I really can't wait for the next book!

I liked this book. It is just over 300 pages. The writing is solid, the story line is interesting and flows at a nice pace. Liked it enough to get book #2. Recommended

This is a good book bit it kind of prolonged. This is book about a boywho is to over throw a king with his dragon. But it takes untill the second book for it to mention his dragon and has yet to learn all of the abilities of being a magitian. All they do is say wo that is a talent you have but they do not apply it orreach him it. But all in all its a good book

I really just have a question! Is this book the same as the Eragon series? It sounds like the same plot.

Dragon Stones is a wonderful book with great characters, my favorite character is Sela. It would be really cool to ride a dragon.
In Dragon Stones a young boy named Elias and his grandmother live in a little town it the mountains when Elias is out getting some honeycomb he finds a strange stone. He shows it to his grandmother and she tells him to hide it. Then the imperials come, he must run.
Kristian Alva wrote a wonderful book with lots of imagination. Anybody and everyone will love this book.

I'm not usually one to gravitate toward the fantasy genre. Nor do I read much YA (Young Adult). But I seem to be reading a little of both as of late. Unlike other fantasy or YA books I've read, this one is heavy on both fronts. This is not fantasy light like "A Game of Thrones". There's magic and dragons and elves, oh my. It's got it all. And the writing and themes are more in line with what I would expect from a YA novel, unlike "The Hunger Games" or "The Book Thief". Simple writing, nothing fancy, easy for younger readers to grasp. And nothing too heavy in the way of violence or adult themes.
All in all, Dragon Stones it is a good solid YA fantasy novel. You root for the good guys (Elias), and you root against the bad guys (Emperor Vosper - even though we don't officially meet him). There are some plot turns regarding Elias' lineage that will keep you interested. One gripe however: the book is quite short and ends abruptly. I know this is the first book in a forthcoming multi-book saga. I know there is more to come. Perhaps the first book could have been longer to better establish the plot and characters. And perhaps the first book could have ended after more had happened, for lack of a better word. It cuts off without anything all that significant occurring, which is good for future sales but leaves me feeling cheated on this book.
That being said, I still liked it. It was engaging and, as far as my limited knowledge of YA fantasy goes, unique. Give it a read!

Overview
From Goodreads: Fantasy is my thing, so I was pleased when I got the chance to review Dragon Stones. This book? Well, I don’t know what to say, I really don’t. I don’t want to say fantastic or awesome, the words don’t have enough meaning. From the start Kristian Alva emerges us into her world. She doesn’t info dump or expect us to pick everything up at once. We start simply, with some people slaying dragons in the intro. Then we leave this scene to our main character, a 15 year old named Elias and his grandmother. Quaint, some description, quite comfortable. I would say I thought it would be something like a modern Lord of the Rings book. It’s more than...
