Children's Literature
Every child should have a grandfather like 9-year-old Peter. Grandfather lived with a canary and two rabbits in a "wonderful messy cottage." Whenever the two got together, "they did whatever they both felt like and had French fries for every meal." Naturally, Peter wants to buy a special present for his special grandfather when his birthday arrives. He chooses two speckled eggs at a junk shop. Grandfather loves his original gift. Well, young readers will love what comes next. The eggs hatch and grandfather is the proud owner of two lizard-like creatures, which he and Peter decide must be dragons. Grandfather comes up with a plausible explanation why the dormant eggs hatched in his home. Peter and his grandfather enjoy their adventures with the dragons until they realize it is time to set them free. This imaginative story with charming illustrations will delight young readers. The title is a chapter book in the publisher's "Yellow Bananas" series. 2002 (orig.1984), Crabtree Publishing, Pettenati
