from Rabe's first series of new dawning I fell in love with how she wrote and her characters. Now, after reading downfall I can't wait until I get the next one in the series. She really brings you into the book. This book was by far one of the best books I've read for the whole dragonlance saga. If you like any type of fantasy books at all have this be the first series you read. You won't be able to put it down. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Jean Rabe does an excellent job of bringing back some old characters. Dhamon the once hero that fought the dragon overlords at the window to the stars. Also brought back is Rig the dark skinned mariner who learns to despise the new Dhamon with a passion and the Solamnic knight Fiona who resorts to non-Solamnic means to try to get her brother out of Sables dungeons. We find that Dhamon has fallen into a life of thieving, a good one at that. We see him as a man that doesn¿t care about anything but himself. We learn throughout the book that the dragon scale that was put on Dhamon¿s leg is doing something to him and that it¿s now a priority to have it removed. The problem with that is if he removes it, he¿ll die. He¿s joined up with an interesting trio. Maldred who is very loyal to Dhamon and at this time in his life is probably the only person Dhamon feels friendship with. And we also meet Rikali¿ Pigs! Can she be annoying or what? The self-proclaimed lover of Dhamon she is greedy and opinionated. Loyal to Maldred she also is a thief trained by the best. And I can¿t leave out Fetch. Are we sure he¿s not a Kender? I mean he even has a hoopak as his weapon? Of course he killed the previous owner for it so¿I guess not. He¿s really a kobold. And I think he¿s becoming quite the little arsonist. He is also loyal to Maldred almost to a fault and we learn later that he is the only one to know Maldreds ¿secret¿. And a BIG one it is at that. Another thing I find interesting in this book is the new view we get of Ogres. Still as ugly as ever but we see them as intelligent, cunning beings. Not the dumb mountain dwelling ogres we¿ve come to know in other novels. Donnag will prove that point. As will his son¿ This book is really good and Dhamon is a well thought out character that makes the book what it is¿Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. The book had me from the first page. I really like this author's writing style, and I like the new Dragonlance characters introduced. The hospital scene was vivid. And the fire scene seemed so real I thought I was there. I'm anxiously looking forward to the next book in the series. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
