Raistlin ostensibly plans to work for her, though in reality he means to further his own quest for power. The Dark Queen plans to destroy the gods of magic on the Night of the Eye, when all the wizards will congregate. Raistlin has to find a way to thwart the plot, even though this means doing battle with his own sister, the Dragon Highlord Kitiara, and her terrifying ally, the death knight, Lord Soth. And still he must overcome his final foe: the archmagus Fistandantilus, who seeks to kill Raistlin and steal his soul.

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman published their first novel in the "Chronicles" series of Dragonlance, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, in 1984. Over twenty years later they are going strong as partners - over thirty novels as collaborators - and , alone or together with other partners, over one hundred books, including novels, collections of short stories, role playing games, and other game products. Hickman is also the editor of a new Tracy Hickman Presents line of Dragonlance novels for Wizards of the Coast, while Weis is in the midst of her own, popular, solo Dark Disciple series for Wizards. This book settles the questions about the life of Raistlin Majere. It is the best book by Weis and Hickman to date!

Reading this book was bittersweet for me. On the one hand, I wanted to read it every evening, while at the same time was dreading approaching the end after turning each page. Weis & Hickman do not disappoint in telling what happened to Raistlin after escaping what was thought as certain death on the ship, the Perechon, caught in the Maelstrom. Raistlin's travels were worthwhile to follow and didn't have trouble keeping up. If anything, it makes you want to go back and reread Dragons of Spring Dawning to see if everything is "woven" together as good as how Weis and Hickman compose in Hourglass Mage. Whether that was the intent or not, it makes you wanting more....somehow.

I liked it because it was about Raistlin; becoming the master of the past and present. The mysterious and beautiful Iolanthe has a  spoiling secret.

I didn't really care for this whole series of books. I feel like Weis and Hickman lost their edge that made other Dragonlance books MUCH better. I feel like the Dark edges of the characters were watered down

I just finished reading and im sad to say that I'm done with this trilogy. I love these novels and wish they could go on forever! Im only slightly disappointed that the last few chapterd weren't fleshed out a bit more, but it's only a minor complaint! Thank you Margaret and Tracy for years of entertainment!!
