A Good Book to End the Legacy...

Reading this book was bittersweet for me. On the one hand, I wanted to read it every evening, while at the same time was dreading approaching the end after turning each page. Weis & Hickman do not disappoint in telling what happened to Raistlin after escaping what was thought as certain death on the ship, the Perechon, caught in the Maelstrom. Raistlin's travels were worthwhile to follow and didn't have trouble keeping up. If anything, it makes you want to go back and reread Dragons of Spring Dawning to see if everything is "woven" together as good as how Weis and Hickman compose in Hourglass Mage. Whether that was the intent or not, it makes you wanting more....somehow.

Pretty good, considering last year's drama.

While I did not QUITE find this book up to the standards presented by the other Raistlin-centric novels (some sections still read rather painfully like passages from the playbook) it was pretty decent and certainly draws one in and the writing smooths out despite the occasional bump or strange diversion. Definitely shows how far these two have come since they began writing the series!
Overall, I enjoyed this conclusion to Raistlin's story and it certainly leaves JUST enough ambiguity leading into the life as Master of Past and Present that I was forced to think long and hard about this character who as been my number one favorite since I was about 11 years old (wow, 10 years!). I can promise that those who have so looked forward to this book's publication that it won't disappoint you.

bridging the gap

great story, i was happy to see the gap between the first two books coverd here if your wondering how the heros got the dwarven hammer after escaping the draconians then this book explains it! very well told!!!

I'm trying to read every dragonlance book out there, so far I havn't been dissapointed with any of them.

This book is for people that have fallen in Love with the characters and world of Dragonlance. It gives more insight and stories to the life of Raistlin Majere. And if you know who he is you should really get this book...it is GREAT!!! Now for people thinking of starting to read Dragonlance, this is not it. Start with the Original Trilogy.

Good Notes...

This book is a good place to get all three books of this series in one. You also get the benefit of notes to help explain the story and remind you of any connections that can be made to the story.

Best book out of The Lost Chronicles

This book is all about Raistlin and adds some interesting new twists to what exactly his relationship was to Fistandantilus. Most of the story takes place in Neraka with Raistlin planning plots and counterplots to all the different factions currently in the city. The rest of the companions do make small appearances plus Lord Soth and Slith have small roles as well. If your a Dragonlance fan and have enjoyed the other Lost Chronicles books you'll love this one.
You can still enjoy the book without doing so but I would recommend reading Soulforge first before this one and to a lesser extent Heroes and Fools.

Dragonlance: Test of the Twins (Legends #3)

I love the Dragonlance series. Great book to read. It grabs you and never lets you go. I feel as if I was right there with all of the characters. Awesome from beginning to end. I recommend everyone to read all the series of Dragonlance books.

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are awesome fatasy writers. One of their greatest books is Dragons of Dwarven Depths because the book can hold a reader's attention from beginning to end. Through out the book, the humor the reader will experience will laugh from beginning to end. Dragons of Dwarven Depths is definitely five stars. Flint was an old dwarf who sets out with Tanis to search for Thorbardin. Tanis was a young half-elf who travels with Flint to search for Thorbardin. Arman was a young, strong , and courageous dwarf who was to search for the sacred hammer with Flint. Dray-yan was a strong and courageous draconian commander who had a plan to pretend that he was Vermainaard so that the refugees would fear him. Tanis and Flint Fireforge were sent on a journey to Thorbardin to search for a safe haven for all the refugees. The Court of Thanes sent Flint and Arman on a quest to find the sacred hammer. While the search for the hammer was taking place, Grag and Dray-yan, who were draconian commanders, were planning on having Dray-yan dress up as Dragon Highlord Vermainaard, who was killed. When the news of the search for the sacred hammer spread to Grag and Dray-yan, they decided to take the hammer from the two dwarves when they return to Thorbardin.

Awesome

I am excited to read this book.I have read all their work and I have not once been dissapointed.I cant wait to read more about one of the best characters ever created.I hope that more books like these continue to be written.

A Missing Piece

I have been reading the Dragonlance series since the 6th grade. Naturally everything starts with the Chronicles and you move through Twins, Legends, Elven Nations, etc., but this book forces you to stop and go back to the very beginning. Perhaps my impression would rate 5 stars had I not known about the control Fistandilus held over Raistlin, had I not anticipated the Hammer being found. Yet, the story has plenty of action, plenty of humor 'Sturm becoming a dead dwarven prince, and good heart. I can't rate the book as highly as the original Chronicles, but it is still worth a read.

Great read!

I love the dragonlance chronicles!!! There are precious few good books about dragons and this is one of them. The good dragons can be kinda lame sometimes, but the evil ones are so coooooool! I can't wait for Weis's and Hickman's next book!

A Must Read!

First i want to say if you are interested in reading this book, may i recomend reading dragons of autumn twilight first. It comes right before this book in the series and it will help you understand the storyline better. But if you read autumn twilight already, you have to read this book it fills in major gaps in between autumn twilight and winter night also a book in the series. And don't think they wrote this book just for the missing peices, it is some of the best work i ever read!

Best of Saga

'Tanis never spoke to anyone of that meeting. Though the visions seen and words heard were indelibly etched upon his moemory, he found he could not talk about them. To give them voice seemed to demean them, to take away their terrible horror, their beauty.' I think that quote sums up perfectly the confrontation between the twins at the end. It was so perfect that to describe it any other way WOULD take away from it. You are with Raistlin and you empathize with his inner struggle. Definitely the most powerful scene I've ever read. Only problem is if they were to ever make movies, 5 movies would have to come before this one...and that's a lot of waiting.

Long time Dragonlance fan

if you read the chronicles trilogy you just have to read the war of souls trilogy...if you read the war of souls you have to read this one...it's mainly about Flint and you get some fun moments between the whole dragonlance crew...just like the title say the whole plot is dwarves and dragons... lets be straight...weis and hickman will never top chronicles but for a fan this book was fun to read...if yer just tarting off in the world of dragonlance...start with The Ledgend of Huma...then dragons of autum from the chronicles trilogy...

Just as amazing as the chronicles

This book is amazing. I can't wait for the next. It really ties in the missing peices of the chronicles. Weis and Hickman are wonderfule writers

My favorite so far

This was by far my favorite book in the series - but I have a bone to pick with the writers. Raistlin becomes too powerful a mage, so it's obvious he's got to go - but come on! He's the best character in the saga! Couldn't they stretch it out a little longer?! Are they going to bring him back? Let's hope so! This is a must read - and if you need a 'Raistlin fix,' there's always Brothers Majere!
