I love anything to do with dragons, and this book was right up my alley! I particularly liked how much character and personality the author gave the dragons. It was overall a well-told story, and I look forward to the next book. If you liked this book, you will probably also like "Joust" by Mercedes Lackey, "Dragon Champion" by E.E. Knight, "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini, and "Dragon Flight" by Ann McCaffrey.

The Pit Dragon series is a fun and entertaining series. These books are relatively clean for younger children, and hardly say any curse words, if any. I could hardly put down the books.

I extremely enjoyed this book, and its goal to enthrall young readers in adventure. The main idea of even people in the worst of situations have a chance at greatness really touched my heart. Throughout reading the book Jakkin's adventure keeps you on the edge and reading into the late hours of the night. Throughout the book the reader is kept on their seat with adventure and action. I never though I would be able to relax when reading this book. I almost cried when Jakkin awoke from his injury and realized that the hatching had occurred, and he had lost his greatest chance at gaining a dragon. He doesn't quit though. When he recovers in the dead of night he sneaks into the hatchery to see if he can find a dragon. The bad part is all the baby hatchlings are counted, and dragon stealing is a very serious crime. Will Jakkin be able to find his own dragon and escape bonding? I'll leave that for the readers. As Jakkin goes through his adventure on the planet of Austar IV in a small town, he and his friends Akki, Slakk, and Errikkin try to avoid Likkarn and their master Sakkarn as they survive as bonders. Compared to other books about dragons I've read this is by far the best. I had to force my self to put this book down at night. The characters, style, setting, and plot were perfect in my opinion. Jane Yolen did an excellent job writing this book. I highly recommend you go out and get this book now!!!

I first read this series about 20 years ago (I am thinking that the publish date of 5/1/004 is the re-release with new covers). If you are a fan of fantasy and most especially of dragons, this series will captivate you. The characters are well developed and interesting, and you will be enchanted by the dragons. I lent a friend all 3 of these books, and never got them back, so I bought them again. That is how good they are.

I read this back when I was a young teenager, and I still reread them from time to time as a college senior. I love anything about dragons, and these books are by far my favorite. There are sooo many books about dragons out there... but this series is still #1 in my opinion.
