Overview

The hugely popular early chapter book series re-emerges with a new look! Brand-new eye-catching cover art brings a modern feel to this classic monster series for young readers.

There's a hot new pizza joint in Bailey City and Mrs. Jeepers brings the kids there for a special treat. The castle-shaped building and medieval-style costumes on the waiters are fun, but when a rumble from the kitchen shakes the restaurant's foundations, the kids get suspicious. George, the owner, says his cook is temperamental and the earth-shaking fits he has are nothing unusual, but the kids are pretty sure the owner is St. George the dragon slayer and that his cook is a captive dragon. Can the kids uncover the truth before the disgruntled cook becomes a real problem?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Amber Hurt
In number 24 of "The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids" series the four friends—two girls and two boys—are on a class field trip to a pizza shop with a medieval theme. Strange things happen while they are there, which lead some of the friends to believe the owner of the pizza shop is keeping a dragon prisoner and forcing it to cook the pizzas. The writing is simple but not simplistic. Second or third graders are probably most likely to pick up this book; however, older students who are struggling with reading should also find something to like. Like most books in a series, the characters fit a type (class clown, smart kid, supporting girls) and the action is formulaic. While more advanced readers may grow bored a few books into the series, this repetition should bring some level of comfort to beginning and struggling readers. This book can be read independently of the series without losing any understanding.

I thought Dragons Don't Cook Pizza was a great book. I liked that the Bailey School 3rd Graders went on a field trip to Jewel's pizza castle. Lailah (age 7)
