Overview

Thou shalt not meddle in the affairs of dragons...

Alana is just like any other maiden, waiting for her dragon to come... until Queen Elizabeth declares both dragons and maidens in Scotland be destroyed. Now, instead of flirting with dragons in search of her mate, Alana is running for her life.

Disguised as a nun, Alana hides in a convent, watching as her future burns to ashes, but just when she thinks all the dragons are gone, a dangerous and destructive one strikes, laying waste to both the convent and her hopes.

The maiden has finally been claimed, and while she should be thrilled, her captor is far from the dragon of her dreams. Her descent into danger has just begun, but unbeknownst to her, Alana's quest for her true mate has, too.

A paranormal romance novella with a very different, historically inaccurate take on Queen Elizabeth I and her rivalry with Queen Mary during the Enlightenment of the Renaissance. Here be dragons!

Meet the Author

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author Michelle Fox lives in the Midwest with her husband, kids, the occasional exchange student and one very hyper puppy. She loves fantasy and romance, which makes writing paranormal romance a natural fit. Occasionally, she goes through a maverick phase and writes contemporary romance. In her spare time, she's been known to shake her bon-bon at Zumba, make spectacular cheesecakes, hoard vintage costume jewelry and eat way too much ice cream (Ben and Jerry’s Karamel Sutra for the win!).

A different kind of dragon shifter story. A new approach makes this an exciting book to read. I will not take away your chance to experience it for yourself. Read it and enjoy. Susan Y.

I’d say Dragon’s Maiden by Michelle Fox is a different dragon shifter story, one that leans toward the fantasy side with its historical timing and magical happenings. I had no problem enjoying the journey and the time period. Ms. Fox’s imagination recreated events that may or may not have happened – I wasn’t there so who is to say her imagination didn’t recreate events that actually occurred? It was a fun read and had intrigue, bad guys, bad magic, some very good magic, and [spoiler alert] a relationship journey for Alana and (eventually) James. I recommend.

I was given an Advanced Review Copy, by the author, in return for a honest review. Captivating novel of dragons, magic, and maidens set in a historical, paranormal world. I loved Alana! She was a fierce and determined maiden, even as a captive, to save the last remnants of magic is Scotland. Will she find freedom, love even? Will she ever find her dragon mate or be forced to wed a cruel dragon, Lord Kendrick? Beware the red dragon, but not this quick read! - Sarah

I loved this story, I used to read Hisgtorical Romances before I disvovered Paranormal, so this was just a treat all the way. Ms Fox really did a wonderful job combining the two. Since we always hear in Dragon stories how it all started Millenia ago, well know we have one idea how it happened, don't we? Queen Elizabeth destroyed all of Scotland’s dragons, and killed the female mates and future mates called Maidens just to make sure they were all wiped out, so she could have all the power over Queen Mary and Scotland! Those escaping hid, but magic calls to magic. Alana is the only Maiden left after the evil Red Dragon from England wiped out all her sisters, now she is on her way to his vcastle to become his mate.. Lord Kendrick is the only dragon left in England though and he must mate in order to get more dragons for the Queen. But Alana will not give in to the evil Lord Kendrick. She meets stableman James, the last mage of Scotland and together they plot to save Scotland, but especially Alana from the clutches of the Evil Red Dragon. Will James succeed in helping Alana and evading the clutches of the Red Dragon, or will the die trying to save the last of their kind? Wonderfully written, the witt employed by Ms Fox when twisting history a bit is wonderfull. It is not insulting at all, but entertaining.

Magic calls to magic. 5 MAGICAL HEARTS And hearts call to hearts. There was destiny between us. I could feel it. DRAGON + MAIDEN + MICHELLE = ONE HELLUVA FOXLICIOUSLY DRAGONTACULAR STORY!!! WOW!! Is this ever a different book for Michelle! But different in ALL the best ways possible!!! Before I go any further, I want to say that I had bought & read this book based on it being from an author I am already familiar with, and that I DID NOT read the full blurb before starting it, so I honestly had no idea who the Hero really would be! I am ABSO-FLYING-LUTELY aflame for this story that Michelle herself calls "an unusual dragon romance that's nothing like the other dragon romance books." Personally, the reason I love, Love, LOVE this magical dragon ride is BECAUSE it doesn't just stand out from your typical dragon story, it FLIES & SOARS ABOVE THEM ALL!!! I do agree it is sometimes hard to follow the written British & Scottish languages, so in my humble avid reader opinion, how Michelle wrote this, when, where & how she used the "proper" language, well let me just say - Dinnae Fash!! It's bloody brilliant, lass! You ken? :-) I love how MAIDENIFICENT it all is, how powerful, almost suspenseful it is! I found myself holding my breath and/or clenching my teeth, while my hands cramped up, making me fear for my tablets life more than a few times! Imagine what would have happened if this book was any longer! :-) I thoroughly enjoyed the way Michelle wrote this story! I just love how the background & history for the characters & dragons, the magic, etc. was continually unveiled throughout the whole book, right up to & including The End. For me it kept the story flowing smoothly, adding more depth to the characters, their current situations & "predicaments", to the storylines and plots, and enriching the story as a whole. Michelle's genuine gift and her FIRENOMENAL talent burn brightly, storming & lightning throughout this SHIFTACULAR book, proving once and for all that magic is still alive! All you need to do is open up Dragon’s Maiden… Thou shalt not meddle in the affairs of dragons…

Okay, this book was definitely different but it's nice to break away from the regular genre of writing styles about dragons. You have the characters of a Alana, Kendrick, and James. Alana is a maiden that has been hiding since the maiden homestead was destroyed. She has tried to keep the other younger maidens safe by hiding in plain sight. Kendrick is a red dragon for Queen Elizabeth and his is just a little mad bordering on crazy. While James is a mage of some power for Queen Mary who has been locked away. All three want to do something different and each hope to prevail over the other. Read this tale and decide for yourself if Alana makes a better choice. Overall the book was decent but I cannot call it a favorite. Kudos to the author for taking a chance and doing something different. I voluntarily reviewed this advance reader copy.

This is just up my alley, PNR, Dragons and set in Scotland (Well I am a proud Scot)!!! Queen Elizabeth may have killed off the dragons of Scotland and their mates, but as everyone knows Scots are a hardy bunch and you can't keep us down for long!! When an Abbess, Alana, is informed that a dragon has been sighted, she knows danger is not far behind. She valiantly tried to fight off the mighty, red beast but he still manages to make off with her! Lord Kendrick, aforementioned red beastie, proclaims Alana to be is bride but before he can consummate his claim, he is summoned by Queen Bess. Alana finds solace with a fellow Scot in the household, James. But when they embark on a hunt for a spell book to free them from Lord Kendrick, Alana literally gets burned!!! I always worry when a non Scot writes Scottish characters cos they tend to come out as anything but Scottish in their dialogue. It was great that dragons were themselves having a kind of civil war and that I could really get my teeth into the bad guy!

4.5 STARS A romantic tale that transports you into a time when Queens ruled with dragons by their side in a world of magic. This story has suspense, action, and sensuous romance. Alana, a maiden born to be the mate of a Scottish dragon finds herself claimed by a murderous red dragon who is in alliance with Queen Elizabeth; the Queen who wants all Scottish dragons and maidens abolished. Lord Kendrick the red dragon brings Alana to his home and plans to wed her against her will. James is a servant of Lord Kendrick and befriends Alana. James needs Alana's help to rid the world of the red dragon. This is a fast-paced well-written story that hooks you with the intriguing plot, vivid powerful scene descriptions, and witty dialogue. James and Alana are wonderful characters and their romance is steamy and filled with much passion. I enjoyed this historical twist on dragon shifters; a most entertaining read. If you enjoy historical shifter romance this is a great book for your library. {This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy}. Without reservations, I recommend this book.

Ms. Fox has a wonderful imagination creating, she says, revisionist history. In this time, England has eliminated Scotland's dragons to rule. Then has destroyed all, except one, of her own Dragons. To make sure the maiden's chosen to mate with the dragons are destroyed as well as the mated women of dragons. Of course, there is one dragon left. Alana is protecting some maidens hiding in an Abby when she is captured by that evil dragon. He murders the other women. Alana is now under this cruel man/beast's control. James, a groomsman, is the only one kind to her. He is a kinsman from Scotland. Is he more? Can she trust him? What about the feelings that seem to pass between them? Will they escape the all powerful being? What plans do the queen and her last dragon have for England's future? An exciting, dangerous world. Enjoy and see if the underdog, Scotland and her children, have a chance. I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

I have to admit, I love dragon shifter stories. There is something about a man becoming a dragon and the power that entails that captivates me. Michelle Fox has crafted a very unique spin on the world of dragons. In Scotland, the dragons need to find their maiden to balance their fire. When England destroys all the dragons, the remaining maidens hideout. Alana cherishes her destiny as a maiden but then Kendrick, the last red dragon from England, captures her. Will she find a way to stop Kendrick’s plan? Could she possibly find her mate while trying?
