Overview

"You must go to the dragon. You must leave tonight."

Before she even hears the words, Kaeldra already knows she must find the mother dragon whose draclings have just hatched and get some of the precious milk in order to save her foster sister’s life. Since Kaeldra can communicate with dragons, she is the only one who can accomplish the task. And so she begins a journey that will entwine her fate with that of three little draclings and one would-be dragonslayer—a journey that will become a struggle for life.

Kaeldra, an outsider adopted by an Elythian family as a baby, possesses the power to understand dragons and uses this power to try to save her younger sister, who needs dragon's milk to recover from an illness.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Here's a very interesting supposition. Dragons are reptiles, so there should be no such thing as dragons' milk, right? But dragons are also magic, so anything goes. Young Kaeldra is told that only dragons' milk can cure her foster sister's mysterious illness. Now, dragons are supposed to have left Elythia ages ago, but they left a clutch of eggs, which take 100 years to hatch. When the eggs hatch, the mother dragon will return. And rumor has it that a clutch of dragons' eggs has just hatched, so if Kaeldra finds it, and can persuade the mother to give her some milk . . . . Of course that would be too simple. For instance, how can she pay the dragon for her milk? To add to her troubles, a young dragon-slayer is also looking for the draclings (baby dragons). And Kaeldra has found out something very important, and rather scary. She can communicate with dragons. Recommended for anyone who loves fantasy.

    A Great Book

Young Kaeldra lives in a home full of dark haired and dark eyed people, which Kaeldra is not. Her height, blonde hair, and green eyes sets her apart from people along with her wierd sence of odd things. When Lyf ,Kaeldra's foster sister, gets sick from Vermillion Fever Kaeldra must go to a dragon cave and bring home milk. Not just any milk but 'Dragons Milk'. The simple quest for milk turns into an all out chase for Kaeldra and her talent. Fast paced at times, odd, and exciting this book doesn't fall short of 'satifying'.

    Love this book

I first read this in middle school, and I could not help but fall in love with it. It is well written, filled with dynamic characters, and tells a brilliant story. This is a book that you will come back to again and again and will leave you hungry for more.

    My first real book

I had this book read to me when I was 12 and 19yrs later I still remember it all. This is a book that all children should have read to them. I am waiting till my daughter is older so i can read and share this amazing adventure with her. This book is amazing and was the book that made me want to get lost in more stories for the rest of my life. Thank you Ms. Fletcher for a great ride 19 yrs ago and still today.

    Great story!

It is a great book and great storyline with lots of twist that are easy to predict. The only reason this doesnt have 5 stars is because somehow words and phrases were mushed together to make words that were unreadable. The punctuation was also screwed up.

    Dragons Milk

I liked dragons to begin with, so when I found this one at the library I had to read it. This is one of those books you just can't put down. Some parts will make you burst out laughing, others will make you sit on the edge of your seat, some will make you cry.
