Meet the Author

Lee Judah Ames (January 8, 1921 – June 3, 2011 ) was an American artist noted for his Draw 50... learn-to-draw books. He was born in Manhattan, New York. His first job at age eighteen was at Walt Disney Studios. He has since led a career as an advertising artist, fine artist, cartoonist, designer, animation in-betweener, illustrator, and as an artist-in residence at Doubleday. His series of 26 Draw 50... books take a friendly and minimalist approach to teaching drawing while the books often contain no instructional text. He enlisted in the military and served as a second lieutenant during World War II. He and his wife Jocelyn resided in Mission Viejo, California.

    Birthday Present

    I bought this for my niece and she loves it!! She is totally into horses. Riding and taking lessons and now she wanted to learn how to draw them. She is loving this book.
    I would recommend it to any one the is just beginning to start to draw.

    How to Draw Dinosaurs

    Great for the older child - teaches the basics to the young artist

    My 6 year old daughter (who has horse fever) chose this book, and while she is too young to reproduce the images exactly, it did teach her the basics of form and how to start drawing realistic horses.

    Very helpful

    I wanted a book that would help me draw horses in various ways so that I could draw mounted figures. It is helpful and I suggest you get it if horses are really something you want to learn to draw.

    How many horses does it take to....

    This book is definately a must as an intro to drawing equines. However, you just can't beat using the real thing...miniscule mistakes, or disproportions are expanded when you rely on someone else's work as a base for your own. I'm still looking a thorough drawing guide that uses actual photos....
