Overview

Praised for his "well-researched" (Booklist) and "lively, suspenseful" (Publishers Weekly) novels, James Reasoner now proves that truth can be even more exciting than fiction. Known for his ability to make history come vividly to life, Reasoner strips away the dime-store legends and Hollywood myths to show us how the gunfighters of the Old West really lived, killed -- and were killed.

These are the shoot-outs and showdowns that gave the Wild West its name...recounted here with gritty accuracy, colorful detail, and all the drama of life -- and death -- on the frontier.

    this book sucks

before one wastes their money on this book, they should read the reviews in the book. 'Epic, well-researched historical FICTION.' (all caps mine) from Booklist. 'A detailed work of historical FICTION by a gifted writer' (caps mine) from the Book Watch. His chapter on Doc Holliday is so filled with errors, the only way that research was done is that the author watched every Hollywood movie made about Doc. I counted 11 egrigious errors in this chapter alone and stopped reading the book. If you want fiction and repeated stories of alleged incidents, this is the book for you.

A Fascinating History of the Old West

James Reasoner writes his first work of non-fiction, and he does it admirably. DRAW is a thoroughly researched study of many of the gunfights and gunfighters of the American West. The book contains many little-known facts about these men (and women) and these events. It is a well-written, fast-paced work, and a must read for any student of the American West. The reader should note, to avoid confusion, the excerpts from reviews of Mr. Reasoner's work contained in the front of DRAW, complimenting his fiction, refer to his PREVIOUS novels, and not to DRAW. DRAW is a work of non-fiction.
